Title: Unusual Electrical Problem. Help !
Post by: JohnB7620 on 07 October 2024, 11:46
I  have a 2009 Golf Plus 1.4 GTI. The instrument cluster ( dash ) lights up correctly with everything working on first quarter turn of the key, but then has a complete power failure about 1 second after starting the engine. The engine starts ok and all other electrics are working. Bizarrely the instrument cluster lights up for about 1/2 second when I turn the blower on.
The battery is fairly new and I have just replaced all the fuses.
Has anyone got any ideas on what to try next?

I have heard before that this can be caused by a fault with the main light switch.  If you know someone else with a similar car, I believe they can be removed without any tools - maybe just turned in a specific way to release them.  Is worth a test.

Thanks for that. I’ve just checked that out. No change.

Had something similar on my mk6 that affected the radio. This required a new ignition switch. Switch bolts are one use only.
