Yep had mine done about two months into my ownership which would have made my car about 16 months old   and around 11k miles.  I knew it was the one thing I should look out for so as soon as I suspected a small drop in coolant (and I was getting the sweet smell after I switched off) I took it back and the dealer replaced it without really questioning it.

Spookily mine is going in this morning due to coolant level dropping slightly - suspect the usual culprit.

My level still drops by a few mill over a couple of months so I had it tested by VW under my extended warrantee but they said it was ok and just to monitor it.

The big difference between this and the first time it happened when there was the very distinct sweet smell of coolant at switch-off around the engine bay.

Has anyone had the coolant pressure-cap become faulty and would that potentially cause a small drop in the tank level?

Had a drop in coolant level that was then pressure tested. Dealer said there was evidence that the water pump had been replaced and some air in the system had eventually reached the reservoir. Topped up and no further issues.

Mine’s been pressure tested, no drop in pressure, so just something else to keep my eye on.
Edit - forgot to add I’ve ordered a new expansion bottle cap as there was some dry coolant residue around the top of the bottle.

Mine went in last week due to coolant level dropping. Again, pressure tested and no issue found.

I had this problem with a slight coolant loss and after taking it back to VW a second time it turned out to be a leaking coolant overflow bottle which was replaced. Its been ok now for nearly 2000 miles.

mine is booked in for a couple of weeks time, after an initial inspection

VW authorized the warranty replacement which is a bill of £1200 (obvs, not to me but its on the paperwork).  They will probably just replace the thermostat if the pump isn't leaking or the other way round, but with warranty I'm not too fussed going forward.

if any of you are fiddling with your expansion tank bottle you could remove silica bag from the reservoir?  Did mine about a week after I picked it up.
