I think it’s automatically done OTA.

The maps update over the air as long as there is an active and paid up We Connect Plus account, when the car reaches 3 years old the initial free account that was included when the car was new lapses, and will need to be activated again through payment to VW, without this OTA map updates will not take place, you can still download the maps from VW for free to a memory stick and update from that. We Connect costs from £129 per year. This was another cost I factored in when deciding to order an 8.5 GTI.

Ahh yes it is subscription after three years.

I just stopped using it and use waze instead...

It was the same on my old M135i, except in that case more things stopped working, and it was more expensive to purchase.

Thanks for the feedback does the Apple Music come in the package so there would be no subscription to pay Apple Music thanks also does anyone have this and is it any good thanks again

I believe it simply allows you to use your existing Apple music subscription straight from the infotainment without the need to connect a phone, you would need an internet connection though, either by signing up to use VW partner Cubic telecom using the in built eSIM, or by tethering a phone, I’d never use the former, and the latter is pointless for obvious reasons. I had a similar thing in my M135i with Spotify, as the phone was always connected when I got into the car, CarPlay would already have Spotify on it, and with it also in the car as a stand alone, my Spotify account became very confused 🤪. For me it just didn’t make any sense to have both, so I disabled the stand alone app in the infotainment, so essentially, if you already connect your phone it’s pointless.

Thanks I’m sure it’s a pointless upgrade, but I like the traffic updates and sat nav  updates as there is no other way of updating thanks again

Yes, the other bits are useful,  It’s just the Apple Music part that’s pointless.

Paying vw for navigation is daft when your phone has it for free and arguably superior navigation too from either Google or waze.

Never really used Nav on any of my last 3 GTI,s always use Google maps and Tom Tom Amigo in background to cover all speed and traffic cameras.
Even easier on MK 8 with wireless Android auto.

Should work through CarPlay or Android Auto, you’ll need to pair your phone with the Infotainment via one of those if you haven’t done so already.

You'll wonder how you lived without Waze in a few months  Mossy.  I don't go anywhere without it and the fact that Android Auto is also the best way to connect Spotify means it's a must for me.

Much better. You get speed cameras as well as the best patching algorithm out there.

Even works with the hud if you have it
