Title: MK7 Performance
Post by: V8MBO on 28 July 2024, 21:14
Hi Guys,

I seem to have a lot of chatter from my front calipers when on a rough road, is this normal ? or is it the pins that hold that calipers on being worn? at first i though it wa the drop links ( it sounds like worn drop links ) but they are fine...

Your thoughts please!

I would say it's the pads being a loose fit in the caliper carrier.

Normally this happens when aftermarket pads are fitted.

Best way to test is reverse slowly and gently brake, then drive forward and brake, if you hear a clunk it's the pads moving in the carrier.

I haven’t driven my Clubsport for months and decided to have a trip out yesterday. I had the standard brakes reinstalled a few months ago but have not really driven it since then. Anyway, I’ll get the point. I had noticed a slight rattle when driving over rough surfaces but not on speed bumps. During the drive up to Newcastle I noticed a strange noise especially driving on concrete surfaced motorways but when I turned off the sound got really bad.

I managed to get a time slot with Decimal Tenths in Blaydon - highly recommended and discovered the caliper retaining bolts (pins) were missing on one side and loose on the other. 🙁

Worth a check!

Crikey, that could've been nasty.

Had the calipers off recently??

I had the Racingline brakes removed and the standard brakes reinstalled back in April but the car had only done 50 miles since then. The garage has done a lot of work and the car to a very high standard but this has shocked me.
