Hi Guys,
Ever since i got my 2023 Gti its had a mechanical clunking type of sound when engaging P when its been in D or R. When i start the car there also seems to be a clunk sound when turning it on. It seems to come from from the centre console area where the gear lever is. Ive noticed it more when the cars been started / parked without any music etc on.
Is this normal?

No, it's not normal but it's not unknown.
My last Mk8 had a similar issue. It turned out that the Selector Lever Solenoid was sticking, and so it was replaced under warranty (TPI 2067084/1). You need to speak to your dealer and get if fixed.

Thanks for this and the info on the TPI. I will give the dealers a call tomorrow and get this booked in!
Out of interest once yours was fixed under warranty did you experience any further issues with it or anything releating to to it?

No, the job was carried out in June 2022 and I sold the car in March 2024, and I did not experience any further issues with the transmission.
Good luck at the dealership.
