Only get chance to drive my Gti couple times a month so looking into getting a smart charger and looking for recommendations please guys

Check out CTEK MX-05 and CTEK CT5 Time to Go.   Either should suffice. Good range of accessories and extras To make a perfect package for your situation  (cables, connectors, cases etc).
I’ve used the former on my 2019 R since 2020.   Low usage. Yet to cover 10k miles.   Original battery.
