Just placed an order yesterday for a Mk8.5 GTI. Only option I ticked was Moonstone paint, as want to keep under the £40k tax threshold.
Managed £3k discount from the dealer in addition to the £2.5k PCP contribution. Got a quote through DTD which I took to my local dealer. They got within £200 so went local. Hopefully arrive October time, but who knows!
Currently have a VW T6 TSI which is my daily vehicle and occasional camper. Will be selling that privately once I get a build date, and paying off the majority of the PCP.
Look forward to gaining knowledge through the forum

Welcome Sharpe
Sensible choice, Moonstone looks nice and as you say, it stays under the stupid tax threshold.
Whats the economy and performance like in a TSI engined T6?

Around 23-25 mpg around town, 31-32 mpg on a long steady run! It’s the EA888 gen2, 150bhp moving a 2.5 tonne non aero dynamic block. But much smoother to drive than a diesel.
They are quite rare so hoping it will set mine apart from the thousands of diesel engines ones when I sell. A lot of people remap them to 300bhp, I’ve managed to resist the temptation though

It’s certainly a curious mix!
A remap would work well for sure, the extra mid range grunt should make hills a breeze, would surprise a few SUV’s in the acceleration stakes too!
The GTI will be a different beast, lighter on its toes and on your wallet.

It’s worked well for me for 6 years, doing short journeys without worrying about DPF issues. I was in an S3 before the transporter, so did miss the power initially. I now drive quite slowly everywhere, will have to be careful with the GTI.

Lots of pros for short journeys I guess, as you’ve said, smoother, no DPF, plus quicker warm up and more responsive.
You’ll certainly miss the interior space going down to a Golf but plenty of other trade offs.
If the new car arrives around October that’s good news.
Looking forward to seeing some photos and impressions when it gets delivered.

It is nice having a living room in something under 5m overall length

Wow! Plenty of social distancing in there!!
