I'm going to get the diamond-cut Austin style wheels on our 2014 GTI powder coated, the lacquer coat is failing.
The car is black. Has anyone done this with these style wheels who can share a photo? Wondering whether to go black, silver or grey.
Will those style wheels look too 'blocky' in silver? The spokes are quite large.

Gunmetal grey is a lovely colour.
Got my Mk 6 GTI wheels done in that and against CSG body paint it looked classy.
-
I’d go for a shade of mid grey (gunmetal, anthracite or similar) or smoked chrome. IMHO dark colours don’t work particularly well on alloys with wider spokes (makes the alloys look quite ‘heavy’). I wouldn’t go for black alloys on a black car - that would be too much black for me.
-
I’m interested how they would powder coat more than one colour if that’s your choice?

Powder coat the alloys in black, then lots of time consuming precision masking up would be needed before applying the second colour. The additional labour costs for masking up and applying the second colour would mean it would be more expensive than getting them powder coated in a single colour. Additionally, I don’t think there are many alloy wheel refurb companies that offer a two tone powder coat finish.
Back in 2020 forum member @GolfTi had their Austin alloys two tone powder coated to replicate the original diamond cut look; link to discussion topic below. I think they look good. At that time, it cost £140 a wheel when the going rate for a single colour powder coat would probably have been closer to £100 a wheel for 18” alloys.

@Toeman recently had his Brescias painted two tone and they look very sharp.

Thanks everyone.
I agree black wheels on black car probably too much black for me too, nice to have a bit of contrast in the wheels.
I will ask them about two-tone wheels out of interest but I don't think I'm going to want to pay the extra.
My initial thought was silver because I want to have as close to 'original' vibe as possible but I will look at gunmetal grey and smoked chrome too.

As will sid I got two tone colour done of my brescias it wasn't that expensive to be honest I was well impressed and it has kept that oem look

Didn't you get these done somewhere in NI ISTR?
-
Yes got them done in ni but I’m sure most alloy wheel premises would be able to offer the same. I paid 60 a corner for cash

I’m going to give that a go in the near future on my Parker’s. I actually quite like them but hate the fragility of the DC finish and like you, want to keep the OEM look.

That looks ideal. I will ask them about it. Thanks.
