The obvious software gremlins is something to be aware of, and checking to see whether the car’s software has been updated to minimise / eliminate the many software-related issues reported on this - and other - forum(s).

As for the absence of the wheel arch lip spoilers;
If the car did originally have the 18” Richmond alloys, I’d be wanting the seller to confirm the 19” Adelaide alloys on the car are genuine VW items by providing pictures of the reverse side of the wheel’s spokes for each wheel showing the distinguishing marks forged into the back of the spokes - e.g. part no. (5H0601025R), spec details (19 x 8J ET50), manufacturer name, JWL certification mark and VW logo. CMWheels sell replica 19” Adelaide alloys at £550 for a set of four (there’ll be other sellers of replicas too), so a previous owner might have gone for the more cost effective option! The replicas won’t have the aforementioned identifying marks forged into the back of the spokes - there may be some identifying marks but they’ll be different.

I think there was only one size - not 100% certain though.

All one size for UK GTI's (the biggest size).

The only other thing I'd say... on a 70 plate this is one of the very first Mk8's... they had a lot of software/electronic hardware problems.

Whether any of the fixes have been done to this one is probably impossible to say unless you can get a copy of the service record.

I'd be really cautious in buying one.... if it was a 71 plate onwards its probably better - a lot of the components were improved over time.

Mine is one of the early cars too btw.... on a 21 plate, but largely the same.

It depends on how much time you want to spend running back and forth to a VW dealer and having an argument with them.

Mine must have been in there a dozen or more times in the first 3 years... Thats what you are potentially facing.

VW’s Approved Used warranty isn’t as comprehensive as the new car factory warranty so won’t cover all faults that occurs within the two year warranty period. The Approved Used warranty is essentially an insurance product covering sudden and unforeseen electrical and mechanical failures, so there’ll be the ‘usual’ exclusions and conditions in the small print that you find in these types of product.

With the mk8 Golf (especially the earlier cars) having a reputation for being affected by software gremlins, I’d especially want to know what the position was regarding future software fixes once a car’s original 3 year factory warranty had expired - i.e. if these fixes would be free of charge or if the customer would be charged.
