Title: Grenadilla?
Post by: Exonian on 30 April 2024, 20:06
As far as I was always aware the Golf R could only be specced in Pearl Black, White or Blue.

I have no idea how or why I ended up there but I found myself scanning through incoming stock of R’s and Clubsports (well, it beats watching Corrie) and spotted a car in a slightly unusual shade. I clicked on it and it showed it listed as Grenadilla Black. A more in depth search turned up a few more listed in that shade including at least one R20 Years.

Can anybody shed any light on it?

Grenadilla is one of the new paint finishes for the MK8.5, along with Crystal Ice Blue Metallic, Anemone Blue Metallic, and Oyster Silver. As for it being in an R, is it maybe a new mane for the old colour?

I think you’ve secretly got an urge to be an early adopter of a mk8.5 R or Clubsport; you’ve had your current mk8 R now for a few months now so it must be time for a change……

Maybe Grenadilla Black is the new Black Ruben (a.k.a. Purple). For those not familiar with Black Ruben; Google it and have a look at the images.

Based on Google images of ID3s in that colour it looks like a standard black metallic i.e. not Pearl.

"Black ruben".... aka "purple nasty"

Worst colour ever to grace a golf IMHO

I really hope  VW haven’t resurrected Black Ruben.

The ID range has "Grenadil black" and it's just regular black metallic. I've seen it in the metal and it doesn't look any different to the metallic black on the MK8.

I thinks it’s even less than 0.1%

Busted!

Nah, I’d lose about two years worth of wages in depreciation selling the R, I’ll slum it for a bit longer! 😁

I was clearing out open tabs on my phone that haven’t been touched in months (years in many cases) and spotted the VW search still sat there, so decided I’d have a nose to see what stock VW were still pushing through to dealers.

My guess is they’ve run down pearl black and are now building Golfs in a different black before the facelift changeover. It’s not like any of them are actual customer spec builds.

I’ll struggle on without ChatGPT a little longer.
