Title: Mk6 power fold mirror
Post by: Redvtec on 26 March 2024, 09:08
I have a mk6 gti it has powerfold mirrors with puddle lights. I had to have the module replaced on the passenger side as the window was playing up. The fold and light worked before this. I have checked the module and it appears to be the correct one. All wires are connected. Do these units have to be coded? The mirror it’s self moves but the unit will not fold and no puddle light. Drivers side is fine. Pic attached of unit and thanks for help.

Hey Red,

I think Im prob the most qualifed to answer this based on my recent exprence
See here for info: https://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=289799.0

Yes they need coding, Who-ever changed the module for you, should have coded this new one in. They don't come with the coding as standard.
I had to code mine when I fitted them.

Thank you so much for the reply. I had read through your post. I’ll try and find someone who can code it for me.

Hi - sorry if this is hijacking this thread slightly, but I have maybe a similar problem.

My drivers door wing mirror indicator and puddle lights are not working - the mirror unit is powered and will fold in and out using the knob / switch on the drivers door, the mirror itself can be moved using the same knob / switch when set to the 'R' position but neither of the lights in the unit work. I have today replaced the light part of the unit as I thought that would solve it (£55) but still no lights. But maybe this is the cause - before I bought the car (two weeks ago) the garage had the drivers door window motor replaced as they said it was faulty. Would this require the wing mirror indicator and puddle lights to be coded onto the car again?

The wiring looked 'OK' at least those I could see when I disassembled the mirror this morning, and as I wrote above, it has power (mirror and unit will move using interior knob / switch) but no idea if wiring further within the unit is damaged.

Any suggestions as to what to try next?

Short version, yes, it needs coding.

If they swapped out the Window motor, this is the unit that has the coding within it.
Hopefully, they used the correct part number.
