Post by: Jay166 on 20 February 2024, 17:02
Hello all,
Does any one relatively near to Wiltshire have a programming dongle for the helix sub that I could rent from them?
Cheers

Hi

I suspect you are now sorted, but reach out if you still have a requirement.

Cheers.

Have you fitted a Helix to the Mk8 Tony?

Hi, no, but it would be excellent if it was possible, as I really rate it.

I suspect the audio runs completely differently on the MK8.

I did play with the idea myself when I got my Clubsport (almost 4 years ago now!) but chickened out as the standard setup isn’t too dreadful. I didn’t want to be stuck with an unusable sub if it couldn’t connect up. :afro:

I've not looked, but does the MK8 have the unit behind the glovebox as the MK7?

I guess that would be the starting point.

It’s taken me a while to find my old thread but:

The mk8 stereo gubbins is above the glove box, just not visible because you don't have CD player or sd cards.

Also here is the back of the it...

Audison make an audio upgrade and it definitely fits the mk8.

You can see the cables in that link.

Helix should work i think based on all of that.

Hello, long shot but did you fit a new kit? And if so do you have the short loom with the yellow & black wire spare by any chance?

I’ve bought a second hand helix and it’s missing the plug that you swap the power wires in to. Would be great to get hold of one so I don’t have to cut & join anything.

Cheers!

Hi

Welcome.

If you do not find anyone local, I’m still happy to rent mine out as i’ve done many times over the years.

Cheers!

Ok great, thanks. How much would you charge?

I've just ordered the kit so might be a while before it's all installed.

Cheers

Hi

Where have you sourced the kit from? Others on this forum will know just how much I rate the kit. Very easy to install and such an impressive improvement over standard. Easily the best mod I did to my MK7. So much so, I have fitted one to my MK8!

You might need to leave an email address here and delete once I pick it up, as being a new member I cannot send you a PM I'm afraid.

Cheers!

Yeah no worries, I'll drop my email in when ready to programme.

I phoned my local dealer and they had one left for £520. I found a random German website that shipped me their last one which ended up costing £420 including the demo switch. Literally the cheapest I could find.

Looking forward to getting it installed.

Do you know of anyone, or any threads discussing upgrading the speakers alongside the helix kit?

I'm eyeing up swapping in some of the dynaudio speakers at some point but I think I read somewhere people have had issues running the helix and other speakers.

Just my opinion, but on the MK7, with the Helix fitted, I just don’t think the speakers need changing.

The DSP is tuned for the standard setup/speakers.

I’d wait and see as once programmed for the correct car these are simply fantastic.

Will you need to pay import duty from Germany? Which UK dealer had one, as when I checked recently I was advised that none existed in the UK?

Cheers.

Yeah I was thinking the tune might be an issue. I'm sure I'll be happy with the Helix and the speaker swap looks a pain.

I phoned the Stockport dealer and they said something along the lines of 'they've got one in their main warehouse that is available to ship'.

No import duty to pay from Germany I don't think. I think the value is too low. But I guess I'll find out for sure when it gets here. It's clearing customs now.
