Title: Cracked Headlight lens
Post by: rowlers on 25 January 2024, 14:04
My DRL LED/Driver has failed on the drivers side.

Its going in to VW on Monday for investigation, but in the mean time I've notice that the lens is cracked too. Don't know if its coincidence, but I'm concerned that the dealer will blame the crack and refuse warranty.

Anyway, the thoughts of a new headlamp is quite disturbing, I'm looking at £500+ for a second hand one! If I can get the DRL back on and working, is it feasible to use some protection film on the headlight to keep it sealed until I can find a reasonably priced replacement?

Thoughts?

I'm not sure, looking at the feedback images you'll need to heat up the sealant around the original lenses.

Have a search on Youtube, this is bound to be a few videos on how its done

On a previous car owners website a few members hated the amber indicator section of the sealed light units and wanted to replace them with a clear section. They used to heat them up in an oven to melt the sealant, a bit to brave for me.

Thanks all, watched a couple of videos, looks straight forward, if a little hard work.

Its in at the dealer on Monday, so if they feck me off I'll have a go at changing the glass...

Looks like the warranty will cover the waterpump/thermostat, but won't cover the DRL. They reckon water has got into the DRL module from the cracked lens, £1400 to replace!

Looks like I'm replacing the lens and module myself!  :undecided:
