Title: DSG service
Post by: Deddi on 24 January 2024, 19:38
I spoke to my local VW dealer today about my upcoming DSG service. I assumed it will be an oil and filter change. They said it is only oil they will be doing. My car is a 2016 GTi.

I said what about the filter and they said that the book says only oil. Said the filter is inaccessible or something like that.

Anyone else had this advice?

Dependant on gearbox code -

Every 60,000km (40,000miles).
 Dual clutch gearboxes (DSG) 0D9:- change gear oil & filter.

Every 120,000km (80,000miles).
 Dual clutch gearbox (DSG) 0GC:- change gear oil

Just to check then, 0D9 is the 6-speed and 0GC is the 7-speed?

Correct.

Mine is the 6 speed. So it sounds like my filter should be changed at 40000 miles. If so, I cannot believe that the filter would be inaccessible as they have said.

I just don't understand why the VW garage would say this.

Makes me doubt them now and wonder if I should go to a German specialist independent garage nearby who quoted a bit more to do the service jobs.

Well, if they can't find the filter thats sticking out the top of the box I wouldn't trust them to fill up my screenwash.

Find someone who knows what there doing is my advice.

As soon as my GTI was out of manufacturers warranty I started using a local independent. A full DSG service (fluid and filter) was about £160 ISTR. Got mine done at 3 years / 14k miles, which I know is total overkill but services are cheap and DSG boxes aren’t - I also plan to keep the car for some time.

Thanks all. I think independent is the way to go from now on.

Just to confirm that on vigorous questioning of the dealer prior to service nxt wk they confirmed my 7 speed DSG gets an oil change at 80k, end of….
The front diff oil question is another matter I will return to after nxt wk.
