Maybe a daft question but: -
The MFA display shows that the oil temp in the engine hovers around 104-109 Degrees. Is this about expected with an 8v? The water temp appears to be in the middle of the gauge, which I assume means that the water temp is ok?
-
Sounds fine to me, mine was just over 100 cruising at 80 mph down a private road :)
-
I would say a bit high.... What type of driving are we talking? 40 minutes of hard work or 20 of tootling etc....
A reasonable average non thrashed temp for mine is about 92-94ish I only got too 106 in this one when my fan broke! My previous one i got up to 104 by thrashing it  something i don't do anymore in respect for a classic!
-
Its probably more like 104 when pottering around town, and 109-110 when munting it down the motorway. Any ideas how to get it down at least a little?
-
simple things as an oil change. coolant flush etc can lower it.
tbh i wouldnt worry about it. VAG say you should only worry if it hits 140 odd!!
my old 16v use to hit 124 in traffic. latest 16v will sit around 100 mark
-
Mine will hit 110 sat in traffic but generally it stays around 98/100....depends how long since last oil change really
-
Me 8v is rocking about 91/93 when pootling, up to 110 when thrashed.
as Defadog said, oil change and coolant flush may help.
-
mines normally about 100 on a normal run and about 110 to 120 on motorway but i think it runs a little hotter cos of the turbo conversion.
-
I've recently had an oil change, so i'll opt for the coolant flush, see if it drops at all.
Cheers again.

after that it going to be things like belt slipping or pump on its way out. is the stat opening and closing? change it when you flush it for around 7 quid its worth swapping
