Title: Rear discs and pads
Post by: JB73 on 17 November 2023, 10:16
Hi guys, just had a major service at VW on my 2019 GTI performance and have been advised the rear discs and pads shall need replacing soon. Is this a diy job?

Cheers Jason

It's an easy job. Do you have an electronic handbrake or manual?

Electronic hand brake,

Just don't do what I did - do NOT tell the caliper to close through OBDEleven when it's not on the car or it will dismantle itself!

You don't need to take the caliper carrier off like all the tutorials show - the disc can just twist out.

Yes relatively easy, you will still have to push the pistons back when going to refit, so make sure you have a tool handy.
A bit worse if you have to remove the carrier (a breaker bar will be need as the bolts are tight!), I had to on the GTD, but you have the bigger discs so should manage to wiggle them out.

You'll need either OBD11 or VCDS, then set it to service mode so when you power down the car the handbrake doesn't automatically apply.
