Hi All,
I’m considering a Backvue dash cam hardwired, but not via the standard OBD cable, but can’t find other cables to use with the fuse box and a fuse tap?
Cheers!

here's a number and email address +44 (0)1159 599 995 sales@blackvueuk.co. for the kit. The hard wire kit was £28.95 but I didn't see a piggyback fuse holder in it, so you will probably have to go on ebay for one.

Does it just run off a mini/micro USB? If so, just grab any cable off ebay.

Blackvue have a circle connector which takes direct 12v, most of the cables on eBay are 5v output unfortunately.
You need the blackvue magic pro (Link below), and then a dash cam to 12v charger like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thinkware-Cigar-Lighter-Power-Adaptor/dp/B00YAE5K3E/ref=sr_1_4?crid=14MMI1H92J1WE&keywords=blackvue+590+12v+cable&qid=1698427101&sprefix=blackvue+590+12v+cabl%2Caps%2C114&sr=8-4

I think my Blackvue came with two leads, one with a 12v cigarette lighter plug and the other with no plug.
The lead with no plug just had a black and red wire. I connected the red wire to a fuse piggy back thing and earthed the black wire (it already had a crimp connected).
Finding a suitable route I was happy with for the rear camera took the most time

Thanks everyone for your replies.
I had seen the Blackvue magic pro and wondered if an alternative was a piggy back fuse tap + normal lead. I’m not looking for parking mode as conscious of the risk of theft if left in while parked.
I’ve seen a guide to install in a Golf – assume all I need is the plastic trim priser / remover tool, and would you say it’s a hard job or just faffy that needs time?
Thanks again!

If you’re not worried about parking mode then a piggy back fuse is all you need. Just follow this guide depending on if your front only or front and rear: https://www.autoinstruct.com.au/manufacturer/volkswagen/mk7-golf/mk7-golf-dash-cam-install/
Just need a set of plastic trim tools and it’s faffy the first time about 40mins from memory, but once you’ve done it once you can do it in 10-15 mins.
Curious though are you worried about theft of the dash cam or the car itself?
-
Unless you live in the Bonx the last thing to worry about is theft. You biggest concern nowadays is people hitting the car and driving off. My cameras over the years have saved hassle people have hit the car or someone elses car and driven off or denied it. All I used was piggy back fuse holders for the parking mode.

Its quite a simple job once you've watched a tutorial , not too much trim needs taking off either.
I earther mine to one of the M10 bolts you can see in the glove box area.
I tucked he wire in the A pillar & roof liner
Theft wise, its very unlikely you'd get it stolen, I have a Nextbase 622 in my Golf R haven't ever worried about the dash cam getting stolen, unlike the whole car 😬

I have mine set for parking knocks & it paid off when a guy revered in to me, smashing the number plate & surround, he totally denied it was him who did the damage, until I offered to show him on the dash cam app 💪

Do apologise if this has been answered already but could do with some advice regarding my cracked sunroof trim. Mk 7.5, sunroof trim has cracked for the third time! First 2 times it was under the original warranty. First time VW replaced the trim, second time I was led to believe they changed the sunroof cassette. I’ve now noticed it’s cracked again (in the same place as the two previous cracks). It’s now outside of the original warranty but I have the All Components Cover that comes with my service plan. I know this does not cover sunroofs however, just wondered if anybody had managed to get VW to replace the trim in this sort of situation and if so how you went about it
Thanks for everyone’s replies.
I shied away from buying one, until this weekend when I had a go installing a Nextbase in a Focus, so has given me the confidence along with your replies and UTube recordings.
I now fell “… I can do this …” and my next thought is which side to route the 2nd channel cable down, the left (passenger) or right (driver).
Have seen some route down the passenger side, same side as the power cable, while another suggested the right for the 2nd channel…
As it’s a Blackvue routing down the driver side might make wire management at the front a little tidier..
Newer kits now come with the hard wire accessory, so ready to go..!
Cheers!
