Should be a fairly obvious thing for you to answer for me....I'm talking about travel assist/front assist bongs btw... the hardware version can be seen on this screen:

As Matt Monro once sang, I’m “bong free” since new steering wheel was fitted a few months ago, H56 (2020 build)
I reserve the right to change my vote if the bongs do return when the temps drop or I get new software (currently on 1896)

Mine had a largely TA/FA bong free summer. I guess all of its bong energy went into a gearbox selector module fault.
Sunday morning was cold and I'm back with the usual bong chorus.
-
It hasn’t dropped into single figures down this way yet so I’m patiently waiting… and hoping…
-
Mine is going in tomorrow as not only are the bongs back but screen is rebooting too. Very inconvenient when using SatNav et.
I also have requested engine cover replacement. Not hopeful as customer service person asked why I needed to replace my engine cover 😂
-
I have 58, no bongs anymore... but I had SOS unit and steering wheel replaced to fix. Bongs didn't initially start until 10,000kms so I'm not holding my breath!
-
I had bongs and told the dealer about it so they told me it needed a new steering wheel and also done a lot of updates to the software,2 months later still no bongs only had to go back once again due to the software needing a further update to 1941 due to the radio rebooting and now it seems to all be fine. A lot of hassle but glad to finely feel like it’s fixed, well fingers crossed 🤞 😂

The big test of all of the fixes is the coming cold weather...
-
Software updated to 1941 yesterday and new steering wheel on order. Engine cover was due to arrive in today for fittting but van was involved in an accident so still awaiting that to be put on. Interesting this am which was cold and damp messages flashed up but bongs not as numerous.

C'mon you Mk8 owners!
Gotta be more than 10 of you here!
-
Go on then I've voted. I've just been not trying to tempt fate, even after nearly two years of ownership.

Would you be able to tell me if I need to get a software update. Looks like 1941 is the latest. Don't know if all the systems are the same ie, Gti, R, CS.?
Haven't hit the poll button yet tempting fate an all!

You don't need to have a software update... and yes all of the systems are the same, even in non-performance golfs.
But 1941 is the latest for sure.

Your navigation database probably needs updating, although I don't know if your dealership will do that FOC or whether you can do this yourself. Does anyone know the answer?
Your Database is version 22.6 and mine is 23.10. I think one of the other screenshots on here (I think it was Fred Groves' car) is showing Version 23.9, so yours is a much older version.

The Nav database is updated OTA...

The Nav database is updated OTA...
I see that the new VW App offers a free Satnav map download. See attachment.
I don't know how easy it is to perform because I haven't tried it yet and I'm not sure I need to install anything just yet.

I don't see the point of an update via the VW app. Presumably it means downloading maps to a memory stick and uploading to the car. Ie the old fashioned way. I'll wait for an OTA update.
-
H58, no more bongs since a OTA update. Had an appointment at my dealer about the bongs a few days after the update and they told me that they weren't allowed to replace the steering wheel. I guess (hope) the update fixed the bongs for good!

More dumb warranty decisions from vw...
-
New steering wheel, and 1941 update a couple of weeks ago. Fingers crossed, no bongs
-
I had no bongs or issues of any kind for first 8 months. Update happened and freezing temperatures (and car not garaged as it was for first 5 months) and now this happens every other journey (see video), not quite bongs but first time happened all the front assist / impact protection / led special dimming headlights all came up as not working.
Worried I won’t be covered under warranty since I fitted the fit cam x dashcam and also fitted r paddles myself.

If anyone has any suggestions on what to do / how to fix let me know.
Looking at getting an obd eleven (not sure if should get std, pro or ultimate) to both fix this and then enable dual maps, have auto stop/start default to off (although that may be possible in existing menus, just not looked hard enough)

Quoting myself here but it did indeed become fate. Quite amazingly the very next day after I voted (Oct 23) I had a warning appear on the dash about the car needing to visit the dealership as some sort of error had appeared, it's from then on the problems started. I'll continue this in the correct thread so head there if you want to read about my issues, it's not a short story.

Well it doesn't get any better with the newer Hardware or Software.
My latest Mk 8, bought new in March 2024, came with H67 Hardware and 1969 Software and it didn't "bong, although it froze completely on a 6 hour drive, and then started performing erratically. For example, the car's Satnav once thought I was driving on a city side street 10 miles away from where I was actually located and, quite alarmingly, slowed me from 70 mph to 20 mph on a motorway.
The dealership were excellent. No quibbles from them at all; they checked the car, identified a problem with the 5F Control Unit and ordered a replacement, which was fitted just a few weeks later.
So far - fingers crossed - no bongs or other issues have arisen.

Incorrect sat nav location is not an entirely new problem, According to the sat nav display, My mk7 used to regularly think it was back home in Wolfsburg!

Errr, I don't think I ever suggested it was a NEW problem.
What I actually said was that "it doesn't get any better with the newer Hardware or Software" and that the Satnav issue was just an example of the erratic behaviour of my car. The Infotainment system completely freezing for most of my six hour journey was probably what showed up on the diagnostic and, I assume, was the primary reason that the dealer/VW agreed to replace my 5F control Unit under warranty.
Furthermore, I am not sure that the Mk 7 Software would have intervened and slowed a car from 70 to 20 mph on a motorway because of a Satnav glitch.
-
I was just pointing out that it’s not a new issue, sorry, I wasn’t meaning to imply that you suggested that it was, and as you say, the mk7 wouldn’t have intervened. It does worry me a little that everything nowadays is so heavily reliant on electronics and software in order to function.
-

It would only do that if you had travel assist on... if you had just automatic cruise control (without the extra that is speed recognition) then it would have been fine...
There are three things which could cause that fail btw.
One is the emergency assist unit rebooting (did you hear a double click followed by the infotainment reboot)
Next is that it read a road sign incorrectly - visible road signs can cause it to think its for the road you are on.
Lastly a total satnav glitch which put you in a place with a different speed limit.... this could be a VW fault OR could be the result of GPS spoofing/jamming....which these days is a possibility with those guys in the furry hats spewing stuff from their homeland.
I had one yesterday that came up with something like bong! "no data available in this area" and it flat out wouldn't display any speed limit data at all. I wasn't on the motorway, I was down some country lanes and not using travel assist. Never seen it before...

Thanks Fred. Yes, I was aware which systems were running at the time and, as I mentioned earlier, I also noticed that my Satnav thought I was - in a 20 mph limit side street - around 10 miles or so away from where I was actually located. This annoying issue continued on my journey for several more miles and, when I got home 30 mins later, my satnav suggested that I was even further away, in completely the wrong direction.
I have no idea whether the above issue was in any way related to the problem I experienced a few weeks previously, with the Infotainment system freezing on a 150 mile trip. Personally, I don't think it was.
Anyway, I have now had the work done at the dealers (i.e. 5F Control Unit replaced) and, so far, experienced no further issues with Bongs, freezes, misleading Satnav or anything else.
Fingers crossed!
