Hi everyone,
I picked up my Mk7.5 GTI PP DSG at the weekend and generally liking it so far, it a very different beast from my Mk6 GTI!
I do have a question though… is the electric handbrake supposed to come on when you put the gearbox into park and switch off? Mine isn’t which if different to some other cars I’ve driven.
It turns off automatically just fine though.
TIA

No, you need to put it on. I stick the box into Neutral, apply the Handbrake and the put into Park. Old habit from very heavy previous 4x4 cars for not letting the weight of the car be held by a small pawl in the gearbox.

If you have auto-hold turned on, it'll turn on (I think).
-
Just designed to turn on and off Automatically, never need to flip the parking brake switch unless working on the car.
-
Comes on automatically if you stop and open a door when reversing into a spot to check where you are in the space.
-
As said above, make sure auto hold is on and it’ll come on automatically.

As Rudedog states, its all seamless and automatic
Auto hold in the MK 7 Golfs is one of the best things ever, no invasive and seamless, you simply never have to touch it from day activate it, having just purchased a 7.5 again its one of features appreciate the most, as on my BMW, you have to jab quite hard on brake to activate auto hold when stopping at junctions, and have auto hold activated for handbrake to activate on leaving vehicle, if not car starts groaning telling you handbrake is not applied.

Never bothered with auto hold much unless in crawling traffic, might have a go at using it more.

That's the beauty of it though, as said above, set it once and never have to touch it again. Excellent feature.
