Title: INFOTAINMENT SCREEN REPLACEMENT - WAITING TIME
Post by: Sniffer on 21 September 2023, 13:15
Has anyone had their 5F Unit (Infotainment System) replaced under warranty and, if so, how long did you have to wait for it?

I had my screen replaced on 24th June due to it turning on the drivers side heated seat by itself, it was diagnosed around five weeks beforehand, it would have been possible to have had it fitted sooner though had I not needed a loan car, unfortunately while removing the dash trim the tech slightly scratched the steering wheel leather, it’s having a new wheel at the end of this month! 🙄

If you mean the actual control unit... I've had one on warranty replacement order for a few months...

Yes, that's the one, Fred.

I've been waiting months too and VW Customer Services can't tell me how much longer I will have to wait. Their words "It's stuck in a bottleneck"  Meanwhile, my Infotainment system and related controls only work when they want to.

I didn't even ask for it to be replaced. Last time it was in the shop for the gear selector fault I also casually moaned about infotainment problems STILL.... next thing I know they have ordered a new controller.

Wonder if this is now a standard fix for "bloody car is sh1t"

At long last, I've had my 5F Control Unit replaced under warranty and, so far, all seems well.

However, having seen the invoiced cost of the replacement part at around £2,500, I can well understand VW's reluctance to replace these units, until every possible angle/software fix has been explored. It's certainly not a cheap piece of kit and I am just glad my Mk8 is still under warranty.

Yes mine was finally done last week too.

Hate to say it, but its unlikely to actually be the resolution to the bloody bongs.

My issue was more about the Infotainment screen frequently crashing and rebooting, than just simple bongs.

In fact. sometimes, it would crash and reboot for the first 15-20 mins of a journey, which meant that you could not use any of the related systems eg satnav, seat heating, radio, telephone or a/c controls during that period, which was pretty annoying, to say the least!

Yeah, mine used to like to reboot as well.

Not had any of the reboots yet....

The original reboot problem/fix was to get the SOS unit replaced.... but mine still liked to have a reboot at the most awkward moments.
