I've had the previous water on rear sill going between the rubber and ultimately ruining my carpet and underlay (of which I'm replacing this coming weekend!). I sealed the speakers but the carpet and underlay is past repair.
However, is it still normal to get water on the rear sills. There's no water going between the rubber seal and I actually think having the plastic sill protectors makes the situation a little worse as the depth of those means they're very close to the underside of the door so if water comes around the door frame aperture if must then get a little trapped.
What I don't want to do is replace the carpet and underlay only to find out the water is still getting in.

Okay, I'm about to replace the interior this weekend but after pulling up a bit of the back carpet again, it feels wet (but this could just be condensation or water build up from the sodden underlay) in the rubber grommet near the bottom of the footwell (where the back of your ankles would be if you sat on the seat.
Could that be a source of leaking area? If so, where does that come from?
I've removed the rear bench seat and the boot shelf including spare wheel and carpet insert and all of that is dry.

Either the rear door speaker seals you can test it by pouring water down the window with a watering can. Or the rear vents behind the bumper which fills the rear quarters and pours over under the rear seat/spare wheel well. Both quite common.

Thanks for this. Would I easily tell if it’s the bumper? The bench seats aren’t wet and don’t smell as though they have been in the past. Likewise under the spare wheel there’s no signs.

Most likely the speaker seals then, when you pour the water on the glass on the trim outside you will get water appearing between the inner door panel (grey) and the painted door on the inside.

Thanks, yeah, I’ve already done that as there was definitely water coming through that broken seal. I think the underlay had just been soaked for so long, and still is because there’s no way of the water escaping once trapped in the underlay. The car absolutely stinks.

The question still remains, is it normal to have water on the door sill i.e. on the metal but not the plastic part?
I've done the speakers and still get water pooling on the exterior part of the sill.

Sometimes see that on mine.
I check my carpets regularly and (touching wood and praying) still always dry.

I supposed as long as there's no water in between the rubber seal (when you lift it up, slightly, from the inside of the car) then we should be okay.
After ripping out my interior at the weekend and installing a new underlay and carpet, I do not want to see this issue surface again.
Although not as bad I thought it would be, it's work that I shouldn't have to do on a 7 year old car!

Ripped it apart on Saturday. Put it back together on Sunday. TBH, not as much swearing as I thought there was going to be and I didn't break any clips either! I think I'll put together a separate post with what I did as I followed a fair few Youtube videos and other guides on how to take things apart.

Hope this helps. It’s been battering down here for over an hour and I had to drive a few motorway miles in torrential rain with loads of standing water etc. - quick picture of rear sill, drops of water on the metal, seals and carpets bone dry.

I think that's quite normal isn't it? If I've used the jet wash on the car then I often see this when doing my final wipe around - I guess as long as the water is this side of the rubber door seal then that's working as intended.

Yeah, I think you're right. There's gaps between the door and aperture where water gets in which is why there's the rubber seal there to stop it going into the cabin. Just that that stupid sealant on the speaker means that when that fails that area of the door sits directly over the seal and ultimately means the water either goes directly into the car or sits between the rubber sear and plastic footwell panel, which also then means it's getting into the car.

I think the drain holes in the bottom of the doors would drain onto the sills when the doors are closed so normal.
