Title: Parts drill down diagram?
Post by: greencode on 20 August 2023, 12:39
Is there any interactive parts finder anywhere? Struggling to find a few part numbers for my Golf R MK7 3Dr manual.

I use LLL parts. All diagrams are there...

It’s trying to figure out what section the part is in! I’m looking for the fitted carpet and underlay part numbers.

You can also try E-ACCA for diagrams, this page & LLLParts are my go too pages.

or just take a trip to your local VW parts dept. & they're usually very accommodating & will search on their more detailed system.

Thanks. Bookmarked both. Still struggling to find the part number of something though. Looking to change my 5.8 MIB2 stereo for the 8" MIB2 but would need the piano black surround. Just can't seem to find the P/N!

Hi greencode

Are you going for the non-glass 8" screen? If so, this was the part that my dealership ordered for me in piano black when I did mine:

Yay. Thanks for this. That's the one - how much was it, if you don't mind me asking. Did you upgrade from the 5.8 to 8" too? Is it just a simple swap of units?

Yep, I swapped from the smaller screen too and I'm really happy with it. I think more people go down the glass screen upgrade which is a really nice screen but I wanted to keep it inline with the mk7 options.

I got Alex at VW Retrofit to sort it, he managed to find me a used but excellent condition screen and swapped it all over for me. He did it really quickly and just had to adjust one of the plugs (as in shave a piece off) I think.

The surround was the most expensive part at £166  (I think I may have got 10% off this price from the dealer but still...)

Good to know. Thanks for this. Really helps.

Forgot to ask. Did you have CarPlay and if so, did it remain activated after you got the new one installed? Didn't know if CarPlay was tied to the actual unit or the car.

No worries at all. I know it would have been more helpful if I had done the work myself but I didn't fancy messing around.

Yeah I had carplay before and it still worked afterwards - I imagine that is linked to the brains in the glovebox (which doesn't need to change) rather than the screen.

Thanks again. TBH, I've got a much bigger job that I've got to do myself i.e. ripping out the seats and centre console so I can replace the carpet and insulation. The rear footwell got soaked (and is still soaked) from the annoying rear speaker leaking issue, and because of the damp/musty/mildew smell I've got to replace the entire carpet! Not looking forward to that, especially dismantling the centre console!

That does not sound fun at all! Hope it all goes ok and a screen swap will be a doddle after that!

Are you sure your really need to replace the carpet? I had a leak in a previous car and the water was up to the carpet. Stripped it out, used a wet and dry vac and let it air and it was fine. Chances are the reason it smells is just becausd it is still wet. At worst the insulation might have to go but mine was fine.

I think so. I've just pulled up the rear carpet and underlay (as much as I can without pulling the car to pieces) and the underlay was soaked through. I used a wet/dry vac to pull up as much as I can (it pulled up about a pint) and will leave a dehumidifier to run overnight.

I think the issue is it's probably been soaked for months and so probably got mold and mildew by now. I have ordered a used in great condition carpet and underlay for £150 so that's not too bad.

TBH, I should have left the speakers and not replaced the seal and then got in touch with VW about it to see if I could claim on warranty (I'm on the All-In Plan) but didn't think to do so at the time - stupid me. I think they would just see that I've removed the speaker and say there's nothing they can do about it.

My dealer is replacing my rear speakers under the All-In warranty, only problem is that they are having problems sourcing a pair of Dynaudio speakers. It's been nearly two months since it was reported it to them.

I presume you hadn't already removed your speakers and sealed them?
