Title: Where to find Paint Code
Post by: mcchan723 on 15 August 2023, 13:53
This paint code is found missing in the first page of my user manual. I wonder where else in the car would have the paint code label.

VW used to attach a vehicle data sticker that included the paint code either in the spare wheel well or on the boot floor, but in later cars they seem to have stopped doing this.

If the data sticker isn’t in those locations, if you can tell us what colour your car is or you post up a picture of your car, there may be forum members who know what the paint code is.

I checked the spare wheel well but nothing there. The exterior color shown on the sales contract is Deep Black.

VW's Deep Black Pearl is code "LC9X" according to the Interwebmyjig.

I had a mk4 and mk5 Golf in Deep Black Pearl. It was a labour of love to keep them looking good but they did look great when clean.

Black - or any other dark coloured car - does show swirls, so IMHO it’s important a safe wash technique is used to keep the swirls at bay. Oh, and never let a dealer carry out the complementary service wash (a.k.a. free scratch and swirl treatment) whatever the paint colour, and avoid the many hand wash car washing places.

Only one person washes my car - me for all the reasons you say above.
I bought my wife a Golf Mk4 back in 2001 - she wanted black, what a nightmare to keep clean. Interestingly, it’s still on the road according to the MOT checking service, testament to quality.

Only I wash my car too.

When my car was serviced at the VW dealership last year, I had a waiting appointment and while I was waiting it was interesting to see all other customers who’d brought their cars in for servicing / warranty / repair work willingly accepting the complementary service wash. I bucked the trend and politely declined; I’ve seen the (poor) standard of dealership service washes and my car’s paintwork deserves better.

I've found out that my dealer is defaulted to 'always wash' regardless of how minor the work is so you have to actively opt-out each time - I forgot once and they washed it even though I had just detailed it and was quite clearly spotless!

I try and make sure my car has just been washed before a visit to the dealer’s for servicing. However……..it’s a 30 mile trip to the dealers, so if it’s raining, it doesn’t look just washed when I get there!

I also actively opt out of the complementary car wash each time, plus I have a ‘do not wash this car’ hanger that I hang from the rear view mirror. I tie a tag with the same instruction on the key fob and ask the service advisor to note the job sheet that the car’s not to be washed. So far, the dealer has complied with my request .

Don’t use a dealer anymore and Indy doesn’t offer a ‘complimentary wash’ so not an issue, but I used to stick a sign on the dash asking not to wash and ask the Receptionist to make sure same was on the Job Ticket. I should have asked for a discount.

Had a MK7.5 GTI in Black. Always looked like it had been washed with sand solution. No more black cars for me

Using a safe wash technique is key to minimising the sand wash or scratch and swirl look, especially on black or dark coloured cars. Also, never use automatic car washes, and never let a dealer or those hand car wash places wash your car.
