The day has finally come that I have got shot of my wife’s mk8 gti and my mk8 gtd due to the constant issues we had with them. My gtd had both headlights replaced, new steering wheel, new aerial, a wiring harness and a 4 alloys all under warranty along with at least 12 software updates. I asked the dealer who would be paying for software updates when the car is 3 years old in January and I was told I would be paying for it! Our gti has had 1 headlight replaced and 1 still to be done, been waiting on a steering wheel for it for 7 months and an engine cover for around 9 months! We replaced the gti with a new s3 and the gtd with an a3 tdi 150.
I have added some photos, those of you with mk8’s, watch out for the headlights cracking from the inside outwards.

Sorry to hear you feel that way and while obviously anyone is entitled to change up at any time, was it not a bit rash getting rid of the GTI at least? The steering wheel is a common issue but it’s the first I have heard of someone waiting that long for it, what’s the reason for the delay and is the garage at fault here? Mine was replaced within two weeks of the issue being identified. We are nearly all without engine covers I say but I wouldn’t count it as a problem (while obviously a bit ridiculous).
Granted the headlight issue is not good but it’s an unusual and unlucky problem I’d say, don’t recall it cropping up before.

I'm not surprised you have cashed out given what you have experienced on new/newish cars. While many reviewers raise the issue of a slight drop in quality of some materials used in the latest A3, they all pretty much agree (at least those that mention it) that the build quality is still rock solid and to usual Audi standards.
-
I guess cheaply made = problems

I hope for your sake you haven't jumped from the frying pan into the fire. I also have an new A3 and it's riddled with problems and errors. Constant warning lights, constant errors, at some points it goes into limp mode for no reason. It's had multiple software updates that don't fix anything. It's a turd. My Clubsport on the other hand, good as gold. no issues.

I have a new one. It's crap. I feel my Golf is better quality.

Interesting. Which one do you have? Which Golf are you comparing it to?

The TFSI e, the infotainment is buggy as hell and everything bongs. Buttons have broken / become glitchy. I'm comparing with my Clubsport, coming up to a year old and not a single issue.
Interestingly when I rang the dealer to book my service in he went to check if there were any issues flagged for it and then went "oh it's the clubsport, I never see issues with them, only the standard GTI's" I'm sure people on here would disagree with that statement though!

Sorry to hear of your issues. Don't blaim you selling up i would have too. But if it was me I wouldn't have moved to Audi or any other VWgroup member.

I would’ve also got rid of it and would have steered clear of anything else from VAG at the moment.

Goodbye!
Don’t blame you one bit for ditching the mk8’s after all that palaver daviegsxr and if replacing with anything VAG then the A3/S3 isn’t a bad option. The latter is bountiful if buying new from Audi as there seems to be lots of stock unlike VW’s comedy wait times.
I’ve got a 2020 Clubby that was pretty trouble free until 1896 went in at its second service and has been bong free in the warmer summer weather so far. My lad has an April 2021 1.5 A3 S-Line and that has been pretty good too, occasional nav screen reboots which were sorted by Audi have been its only faults.
Good luck with the Audis 🤞🏻🤞🏻

I haven't heard too many negative comments on Shhkoda....

That headlight issue is a weird one for sure! I’ve not read about that anywhere else, and equally weird that it happened on both of your cars. 🤷🏼

The Engineers at my company used Octavia estates, zero complaints, which is unusual for Engineers when it comes to cars.

They seem to be producing some decent cars these days. I think the Kodiaq, esp in Sportline trim, is one of the best looking SUVs I've seen. I've not sat in one, but they look pretty plush inside too.

I was driven from Schiphol to east of Brussels last summer in a Skoda Enyak EV - very impressive. Guy that was driving it loved it.
-
Nowt wrong with my new S3, no bongs, no software issues,no buggy infotainment. Door cards a little less plush than MK7 Golf, but that's about it.
I have found Audi UK every bit as sh!te as VW UK ever was, with some discussion via an Indian call centre yesterday - 55 minutes on the phone, constantly put on hold, the last stint being 20 mins - I'm sure the rep was hoping I'd hang up.

an engine cover for around 9 months!
Man I got mine in Germany in 2020 with 8000 km from dealership apart from the camera software ( i had the software update at porch because apparently its there soft took them 3 days) it runs fine, as for the engine cover went to the dealership they took it off, did not even tell me found out a few weeks later, apparently it was part of a "recall" i ask them ok what about another one?
They went something like "nope is gone."
I was like ok ... guess is looks cooler this way lol :undecided:
