Title: Golf Mk8.5 Might Say Goodbye To Haptic Buttons
Post by: Brenbo on 17 June 2023, 06:47
I have just seen a photo of the Tiguan MK3 interior and it has a steering wheel with physical buttons, also the large screen on the dash and something on the centre console which looks like the dial on the BMW idrive, but I suspect in reality is possible for drive selection.  However historically the tiguan and golf share many parts so to get a better idea of what the golf mk8.5 might get on its interior check out the photo halfway down the article on the link below:

The article states "Those wanting three pedals in their SUV are out of luck"
So no more manuals? Choice for manual drivers is reducing drastically. I have a 2019 Tiguan manual and if I want to get a new one then this won't be an option for me!

The revised golf is rumoured to be auto only. The dash on the Tiguan in the picture looks dreadful. The screen looks like an afterthought.

Yes my next car was going to be a manual GTI but doubt that will be the case now.

The article at the link below - and a couple of similar articles I’ve read - also suggests auto only.

It does look like the menu navigation dial you still find on some Audis and BMWs (which is great, as you can navigate it without looking at a touchscreen once you know the pathways. I don't honestly mind the haptic steering wheel buttons on our Cupra Born, but my S3 still has physical buttons for the steering wheel and climate control.

Interesting to see the layout. The gear mode selector and park brake will apparently be via a stalk on the right hand side of the steering wheel, similar set up to Mercedes.

In terms of physical buttons on the steering wheel, I can definitely see that happening across the 8.5 range, I'd be more surprised if they carried on with the haptic button on the steering wheel.

I personally like the haptic buttons and the touch slide things, my only complain would be the background is not lit for the climate / volume control but in all fairness i never use the ones on the central console 99.9% of the times i adjust volume from the sliders on the steering wheel and for the climate i always use the screen.

As for the console shortcuts they could just as easy remove them apart from the hazard lights and the DCC / driving control shortcuts.
