Title: Damp ECU !!
Post by: Tornado on 20 October 2005, 20:24
Hello
I have been having real problems with my 8v digifant. Spluttering, stuttering, hardly revving, poor economy etc. Tried some of usual things plugs, dizzy, maf, vacuum pipes etc but it still refused to work properly.
Took it to a man with a brain who unplugged the ECU....The ECU connectors and the plug were soaking wet. Dried and cleaned and the car is going like a train.
It appears that the little black cover over the ecu does feck all good at keeping things dry.
Anyone out there got a spare ECU for a 1990 8v
Alan

no sorry mate, but i8f your good with a soldering iron, you can cut the loom to the ecu and put the ecu inside the car - no idea where, maybe passenger side footwell? keep it nice and dry!

Your problem probably isn't the plastic cover, its more likely to be because your drain holes either side of the scuttle area are blocked and are allowing water to back up and get into the ECU plug.  It wont help if your plastic scuttle trays are cracked though, so make sure you replace em if they are.  About £25ish from VW for a newer design made of chunky plastic that wont crack.
