Title: Autochoke on mk8
Post by: joey on 10 April 2023, 20:50
just wondering, the auto choke comes on and sits around 1400rpm on start up, i always wait for it to drop, as driving straight away causes hesitation and doesn't drive smoothly. my query is that it always starts up at 1400rpm even in warm weather, so is this normal? :undecided:

My 7.5 starts up at about 1200 rpm and settles back to c.900 after about 90 seconds - assume it’s to get the oil pressure to the correct value.

thanks, my MK7 wasn't this high, i just find it just slightly higher than MK8, but then the eco warning info kicks in to say, do not idle?
cannot win....

Yep, mine definitely 1200 rpm for a bit more than 90 seconds.
You could mention yours to the dealer, doesn’t sound like a big issue - most folk wouldn’t realise anyway as they drive away virtually as soon as the car starts.

just comparing to my old MK7,the MK8 does start up on slightly higher revs, even in warmer weather, would like it to drop a little quicker, but no real issues, just the eco warning to say do not idle while stationary to save fuel.
