Hi all,
Sure the above has been asked before but I'm heading towards needing new discs and pads all round. VW main dealer is obviously asking silly money so I'm surveying the options first.
Are something like, for example, the Brembo discs on Euro Car Parts good? I've read that OEM VW pads are Pagid, but not sure on the discs, Pagid too?
On the wild side are the CS front discs, tempted but they're not cheap, are they even worth considering?
Any options/thoughts most welcome! Thank you.

I would avoid Brembo brakes supplied by Euro car parts, I have heard many horror stories about them not being as good as you would expect.
I generally buy my brake bits through ebay from sellers such as Partsinmotion, Allcarparts or Mister auto.
The brakes I tend to buy are Textar, TRW, ATE or Mintex. I have always had good results with these brands.
If you usung the car on track it may be worth going for better (Harder) pads but on the road i don't think that they are generally needed, and they usually compromise cold stopping performance.

I've the same view as SymonH2000, the Brembos are made in China under license and are lower quality than the other brands, but they sell as people think "oh Brembo and they're cheap".

I've recently had fitted VBT Discs and Mintex pads on mine. Plenty powerful but not the most budget friendly.
Prior to that I was running OEM discs and Eicher pads. The fade was horrendous and after a short stint of high speed driving you'd almost lose the brake pedal. They're not something to skimp out on!

Father in law used to work in supplying brakes, dont be put off with aftermarket, they used to make discs for all manafacturers incl Brembo, they are all made in the same factory and have to pass strict rules!!

If you want oem then LLparts have good prices on a lot of spares.

Thanks all. I'm actually thinking of sticking with OEM now. Will have to give it some thought.
Would I be bonkers to consider the Clubsport S discs?! They would look fab!

I had my GTI rear discs and pads replaced in September with stock parts. The originals had corroded and scored and the hubs were very rusty. They started going like this very early on from new. The replacements seem to be of a higher quality and have no signs of corrosion in the 7 months over winter that they've been on there so I'd happily recommend sticking with stock parts.

By way of an update, I'm looking at the VBT discs and EBC Red stuff pads. Any thoughts or opinions?

Have you used Brembo pads or discs? Never had a problem. I fitted Pagid brake shoes and cylinders (UK Made?) on a Fabia and the cylinders have started leaking after less than two years, where's the quality there? They are no different to other suppliers probably made for the least cost. Scan the QR code on Brembos and email it to Academy@brembo.it ask where they are manufactured, they'll confirm if genuine or not.

Its a bit of a minefield isn't it? Carparts4less are the same company as Euro Car Parts, AutoDoc and Onlinecarparts are the same company.
I wouldn't use LLLParts, read the online reviews, or look at the flashy website and then the contact us section at the bottom to find the address and google map street view it, it looks a little strange.
VBT discs are Awesome GTi the retailer, I wonder where they get the discs from?
Mtec are a company in NI but seem to be a cnc milling company? So likely get blanks and put grooves in them?
Go cheap save some money and they will likely be ok especially if you just bimble about in the car.
Go genuine or a UK manufacturer of brakes with at least some level of quality control like EBC (not that I have used them recently), but Freedman Automotive (EBC) have at least a level of control over the product, unlike ECP that are selling Pagid and Brembo from anywhere.

Such a minefield! I thought it would be fairly simple, a few recommendations and that would be that.
I'm now wondering if just getting OEM stuff again for the simplicity and peace of mind is the best option.

Original discs and pads unless your planning on trackdays IMO.
As I've said before, original pads are designed to work for that particular vehicle in every type of condition - hot or cold, raining, wet, pottering to the shops, braking from 70mph to a standstill, etc, etc.

I used the older italian made ones a few years ago and they were ok but nothing special.
The lower cost range that ECP supply are made by Allied Nippon in China.
I would rather stick to OE (which on my car are TRW) Jurid, ATE or Textar.

I've just put both of them on the rears, will be putting them on the fronts in the next month or so. Can't give too much feedback as they're not fully bedded in, and they're only on the rears. However, there's no squeaking, which is nice.

I put eurocar brembo pads and discs on all 4 corners.
After a few months of contstant squeeking on the front, I couldn't handle it any more and bought OEM pads and binned the Brembos (kept the brembo discs)
Much much nicer. Actaul braking power was fine, but it sounded horrific.
When you compare the 2 pads, you realise how much better quality the OEM backing plate is, in regards to how it would prevent the squeel.
I still have brembo pads on the back, but they of course mount differently.
Maybe I. just got unlucky, but they did squeek on both sides. Will buy OEM pads again in the future, but happy with the Brembo discs.
