Hi
My 2014 60k Gti has really badly worn the inner edges of the front tyres. Obviously I’ll get the wheel alignment done, but has anyone had to replace their lower control arm bushes due to age?
Thanks

Could be, if they've worn the inner edges similarly on both edges though it could point to something else.
Has the car been lowered??

I would be surprised if the tyre wear was due to bushings if you don't notice any metal to metal sounds over uneven surface or potholes. Yes they do wear but to get to a state that your toe angle has changed significantly for tyres to be bald on the inner side I believe its noticeable in sound and feel through the car. Toe angle adjustment has a big par to play in worn out tyres, often more than bushings and camber.
Definitely get the tracking checked, if its way out, expect the steering to feel lethargic after you get it done as I imagine that if the toe is out and adjusted back into line you steering will feel strange.

Thanks for the advice. I just wondered if others have found inner tyre wear due to worn bushes as our cars get older.
I’ve booked in a Hunters tomorrow.

Well I had the alignment done today. I was told to toe was out on the front and rear but they didn’t have the old measurements.
I’m not happy but the new printout was all green. And after 60k, it must of been worth having done….

i would defo prefer to have seen the old measurements, if it aint broke dont fix it. My 2013 Gti which ive owned since new has well over 100k miles on the clock and ive never felt the need to get the car aligned as tyre wear has always been acceptable.

I wouldn't be happy either, especially at the price of a hunter alignment, but at least its sorted. Does it feel any different?
I'm a fan of getting it done and tend to get a hunter on all my cars. If its from new I understand CarbonVW's point, but at least you have a baseline going forward.

I had a Hunter alignment done when I had a full set of PS4s fitted at 18 months from new.
They said that front and rear camber was spot-on but both front and rear had an amount of toe-out which they made neutral, I've no idea of what the factory settings should be.
Even now at the point of changing my tyres all of them have completely even wear across the whole tyre.
