I’m kinda thinking of putting 19in Pretoria’s in my GTi?
Would they be out of place being an R alloy?
Are they a bit fragile, or no more than other 19’s?
-
Not out of place as the Clubsport S had them, the golf pretorias are fragile but you can run the T-Roc pretoris which are not forged so had more structural strength.
I liked my set but didn’t like the matte finish of the t-roc ones, so swapped to Brescias instead of refurbing them. But there’s a lot of replica pretorias which also detracts from the look in my opinion.

Fitted reps to our MK7 GTi and they look ace....

As per jaceyboy, fit CM Wheels replicas would be my advice.
There’s always some sniffiness about reps but having owned originals I know where I’d put my money.
Pretorias are one of the nicest wheel designs ever. When you consider mk8 R’s can be ordered with GTI Adelaides and GTI’s can be had with R logo’d Estorils from the factory it certainly doesn’t matter if you fit Prets to a GTI - they were optional on TCR & Ed40 models and standard on the CSS anyway, yet never standard fit on an R…

I would only fit 19's if you have the DCC as the ride is harsh on 19's.
-
Our GTI has passive suspension and 19" Santiagos.
I find the ride excellent, it rides much better than many cars with smaller wheels and higher profile tyres.

I also disagree, have 19s and standard suspension, very comfy and couldn't really tell much difference vs 18s. Make sure you have decent tyres though!
-
I`ve had both, originals and CM reps.
I know there`s plenty happy people using reps, but I`m not one of them.
I`m now back on originals.

Bends, cracks, paint issues?

Can equally attribute bends, cracks and structural failures to replicas as well, CM Wheels seem to be durable but there are subtle differences in the design that just don’t look the same.
Like a cheap pair of sunglasses look the part until you really look or need the performance.

Agreed, make sure you fit decent tyres, when we first had them I fitted crap tyres and the ride was harsh, now have PS4S and its superb

I was replying to o’Neil as regards to whether there was a specific fault with the CM Wheels Prets previously personally owned.
I’m interested to know.
And as for your other point(s), sometimes they can be more psychological.
I’m old and ugly enough not to be concerned about a few seconds difference on a racetrack I’ll never visit.
I’d rather have OEM wheels myself ideally, but faced with spending £2k on a potentially buckled set of originals or half that on decently rated replicas with top grade tyres my personal choice might not be the originals.
Everyone has different uses, values and depth of pockets.
My original question to o’Neil stands, I’m genuinely interested.

They look good on there.

@Legacywr these were my T-roc Pretoria's, a middle ground between price and replicas, £1,400 brand new from VW. No other colour options were the downside though but do have that lower offset so help fill the arches as well.
I also agree with LSBristol & Jaceyboy, good tyres make a world of a difference for comfort with 19s.
