Hi I’m new to the forum.
I currently have a 2020 GTD but have a GTI on order, the dealer I use is normally bang on with dates and updating me, I’ve just been told my cars due to built on on week 9 if I can remember rightly.
Does anyone know if there any delays?
I had a T-Roc R on order and that was delayed that much I cancelled my order and went for the GTI after hearing about the long delays on a club sport 🥺🥺
-
Welcome to the forum @Beclou.
I read on another forum recently (sorry, can’t remember which one) that the Wolfsburg factory is running around 11 weeks behind, so if build week 9 was a confirmed build week, it’s possible your car may not be built until week 20, unless your week 9 already takes the 11 week delay into account.
Hopefully the factory will start catching up lost ground so if the 11 weeks is factual, it’ll become less than 11 weeks.

Just been told by numerous dealers today that VW are not taking orders on certain models at present due to severe backlog. Originally today I was enquiring about either a golf 8 R estate or Tiguan R. To cut a long story short window shopping ended up turning in to me buying an almost fully loaded new Tiguan R in deep pearl black from stock at a good discounted price and i have only lost £2000 depreciation on my current car from new when i trade it in... So although originally was looking at factory order of oryx white tiguan or blue golf estate, due to situation with factory orders at present i ended up getting a black tiguan R... now i had better tell my wife what i have done
-
I’ve gained £4000 profit in my current GTD but it has very low miles, it’s a 70 plate and only done 20,000.
I have asked my rep to keep an eye out for any cancelled orders of either any kind of R or a club sport but I can’t see that happening.
They have confirmed I should take delivery in March so hopefully the lead time given has taken into consideration the back logs.
I hope there are no delays, I was gutted when I cancelled my Roc R as I’d fully loaded her up but I’m kind of glad now hearing that the face lift model still came with plastic mk1 rear door cards and pretty much the same interior and entertainment system as the first T-Rocs.
I’m looking to try and source a club sport looking front splitter, spoiler rear diffuser and side skirts if anyone in the U.K. has any other links than AudoID?
Thanks
-
@Beclou there is someone with an R20 on order on the R forum and they are taking an RS3 instead I believe so they are prepared to hand over their build slot/order, it's Lapiz with DCC, maybe it's of use to you.

I’m just trying to find the post?

So I’ve just been told my car was confirmed for build week 6 and we’re now on 8 🤯
I really hope there isn’t much more of a delay 🙃

Finally progress.
Yes I do normally get a good discount, I think I’m on my 8th new car with the same sales rep and my Dad and brother have had a fair few - Dads a bigger spender than me 😂😂
But I’m also led to believe the GTD is still very sort after and the second hand market is crazy at the min.

Yes, market is still crazy. Ran my Tiguan for 18months and 4k miles and sold it for £1500 more than paid! That was a tdi 200 Rline.

Even through these strange times I’ve still only ever lost money on cars, story of my life!
Probably just a little bit less of a loss than previously.

I think it does effect your value as to where you are in your finance agreement if on finance / PCP as I know my Dad has lost a few times but he’s swapped cars within a year to 18 months of swapping.
The biggest loss he’s had was on a Tiguan and now currently on his GTX ID5.

I guess if you’re doing the PCP thing it’s good to give the VW sales person a workout to see what equity they can build into a deal to keep the cars turning over. Sounds like your family are very loyal VW fans so your sales exec looks after you all well and vice versa.
With current lead times you’d better start planning your next car whilst your new GTI is still waiting for the ferry!

This is what I’ve said 😂 as soon as it lands I might to order a Tiguan R if I can but by the time that arrives something else new might me on the market. 🤯
-
That’s just it, you’ve got to be very single minded to wait for months/years for a car to be built and in that time all sorts could become available.

My cars finally on a ship!!

Not long now then

As of yesterday she was at the U.K. port 🙌🏽 managed to pick my new reg today although non really had any significance but it’s always worth asking to look at the list available.

My cars finally on a ship!!
How many weeks between build week and now? Trying to gauge how long my S3 might take to get on a ship, sitting at Emden. Going to be car-less after next Monday, so hoping it won't be long.

It should have been built on week 6 but was built week 9, it was sat at port on 2/3 so roughly a little over 2 weeks it’s taken to ship but he did say there were delays due to bad weather at sea.
They have said it should be ready for me to collect next week but I reckon more towards the end of this week or the weekend.

Thanks. Dealership got a delivery yesterday and my car wasn't among them. Asked salesman to check build weeks of the cars that arrived and see what mine was e.g. if BW9 cars turned up and mine is BW10, probably will be on next ship...I think I fried his brain with that request.
-
What are the current VAG ships from Emden to Tyne/Grimsby/Sheerness? Used to be City of Rome, City of Paris, City of Rotterdam. Might have to do some ship stalking, as if it'll nake the car come any quicker!

When I got mine I was told it was roughly one month from confirmed build week to dealer door.

When you're at a dealer close to the UK port of ingress, you'll generally get them a lot quicker. I live about 2 miles from Port of Tyne and the local Pulman/Lookers dealers get their cars from the Port in 3-5 days.
Grimsby Audi told me they get the same timeframes from Port to dealership so hopefully a week or 2 shaved off for me (for those that have been following my S3 purchase, no longer buying from Belfast, I'm getting one from Grimsby, too much red tape faff from NI to GB.

Yes, it did sound a faff to save £1k!
Now I'm going back to Audi as well and have an RS3 coming. I have a mid April build date confirmed so May hopefully. I love the R but I've had an itch for an RS for a long time.

Would've had another R, but a 16 month lead time vs an incoming S3 to grab pretty much immediately swung it for me. Just a bit concerned with those lovely looking leather seats sagging over time. A mate of mine has a 10 year old S3 and his seats look very tired (not planning on keeping mine 10 years though!).
RS3 would be very nice, but just a bit more than i'm looking to pay for a car. If I get QP status in the next few years, maybe my next one could be an RS.

Nice. I'm trading my R in for a small profit. It's as new and very high spec but you will have to be quick if you are interested.
-
I'm committed to the S3 now, and I didn't have a strong preference for the R over the S3 (lack of drift mode won't be a miss). Good luck selling the R, someone will have it, but trying to find a private buyer for any car over £10k is really hard work - most need finance and will go with a dealership to get it.
-
Agree. I will probably just take the dealer offer so nil hassle.
-

How good is the dealer offer? \Does it compare well to Motorway.co.uk valuations? If it's not too much trouble (depends what the difference is, I suppose), try Prestige Performance in Selby near York. I sold my old R and a Polo GTI to them and they gave me a lot more than the dealer would. I suppose it depends how much recognition a dealer might give to the extras on there as to what they will give you, but I find that the dealers want way more margin than other car sellers do.

It's a very good offer. Basically I get to drive an R for three months and they pay me £1k for the privilege. Motorway were way lower.
-
Blimey, turn our backs for five minutes and it’s all change!
MH, the Grimsby option sounds a lot less hassle.
Tractor Dave, sounds like you got a great deal! I didn’t think the RS3 was open for ordering anymore so you did well to find an unallocated one. What colour and spec is it? I do love the idea of an RS3.
Beclou, hopefully your new car will be here soon, looking forward to seeing some photos of it
-
It's a long story but I ordered the RS3 last year when I got fed up waiting for the R.
It's white, comfort and sound plus adaptive chassis. Fairly basic spec but nice.
-
Sounds a nice enough spec to me, hopefully you’ll be able to get some photos up when it arrives.

I got a few extra bits on my S3, but in all honesty, I wouldn't have specced most of it myself, they're already on the stock car. HBA - £100, I've activated it for free on my last 3 cars and OBD11, £290 for red painted calipers, would've been happy with the plain black - especially on what is a black car. Would've been happy enough with the 18" wheels, but the 19s are specced - I like them, but wouldn't have specced myself. Also have the comfort and sound - would've foregone it to get under the luxury VED threshold.
-
Not sure whether it's just me, or if Tractor Dave has thought the same. I drove past a parked current shape (8Y) A3 in white and it looked tiny (compared to a Golf), I had to do a double take and confirm I wasn't looking at an A1. Maybe it's a bit of an optical illusion with that colour, or it might just be me.

I passed a current shape A3 that was parked up the other day and thought it was an A1. Agree, it did give the impression of being smaller than a Golf.
There are differences in size; dimensions below are from VW and Audi websites and are for non performance models (A3 dimensions are for the 5 door sportback);
- Golf mk8; Length; 4,284mm, Width (ex door mirrors); 1,789mm, Height; 1,491mm Wheelbase; 2,619mm
- A3 Sportback; Length; 4,343mm, Width (ex door mirrors); 1,816mm, Height; 1,449mm Wheelbase; 2,636mm

Looks like the Sportback is bigger everywhere bar the height (4 2cm shorter).

White, comfort, sound and adaptive chassis are the ideal spec as far as I'm concerned. I do love a hot, white hatchback.
Congrats TD - looking forward to the pics now!
-
Big fan of white hot/hyper hatches myself too.
If going for the silver trim spec (as opposed for the black packs) then white or the standard (Chemora?) grey seems to compliment it best.
Speaking to my VW dealer at a warranty visit for my own car about an in-stock R 20 Years that’s sitting there in base spec for a whisker under £50k (blue paint pushing the price up) just emphasised to me how close that sits to a base spec RS3.
I’d previously half promised myself an RS3 but with too much uncertainty about my job (and the temptation to just cash in my pension and retire to a simple but cash strapped life which has masses of appeal to me) I can’t bring myself to do it.
As for size, my son has an S-Line A3 and it’s definitely lower than my Golf, especially towards the hatch. The glass area is much smaller giving it a sleeker look. I think the new A1’s just look quite big rather than the A3 looking small.
-
Go for it!
I retired from full time work a few years ago. Set up a workshop at home and started tinkering with old classic Audis. Now there is a waiting list for my services. I can pick and choose what I do and when. Never been happier
-
Size wise, the current Polo and A1 are pretty big cars for their class, but it's probably the lower stance of the A3 that made it look small on passing, that and my Cupra Born being akin to a Golf in Cuban heels (thanks to the battery pack in the floor pan).
I was looking again on the Audi website at "available" new cars, but this time on the German website. There's 53(!!!) RS3s available, other Audis available as new "stock" also plentiful. Seems like there's a real curtailment of UK production, or we're buying up cars quicker than the continentals are. I could see myself going for a total blowout on my last new ICE car in 2028/29 with an RS3 or similar.

Agree; I joined the early retirees club around 8 years ago and I’ve never regretted it. Granted, I’m not as well off financially but I’m much happier and more contented with life than I was when working full time in a well paid job that could be pretty stressful at times.
It’s great having the flexibility to do what you want to do and when to do it - or not do it at all!

Unfortunately I skipped the well paid job bit in the middle! Therefore the war chest is empty and kept empty by kids that earn more than me but still need large “loans” (those ones that’ll never get paid back!)
Worked all hours when the kids were small but now cut right back and taking it easy. Still, the business I work for has been taken over by a bunch of inept clueless capitalists who have turned huge profits into a rapidly sinking ship so maybe wishes might be granted in unexpected ways. I’d happily join the army of “fifty somethings” that refuse to return to proper paid work because we’ve had enough of sh!t employers, annoying colleagues and dreadful government.
Maybe an RS3 on finance could be the answer after all, if my job goes belly up I can always just hand it back…
Soooo, what’s the APR on an RS3 PCP? 😁
Anyway, messing about aside, and on the subject of PCP’s, after seeing the “in stock” R 20 Years up for sale I had a quick nose at the GMFV on it and it was something like just over £20k after 4 years. VWFS obviously don’t have a lot of faith in their flagship of flagships!

Are you the over 50s that the government is trying to tempt back to work?!

Hi GTI forum,
My first post on here having found the website whilst becoming frustrated with my new car order.
After a number of years and having been driven in a mk 1 golf GTI, I finally got a mk 7.5 GTI 3 years ago. It has been a great car, so much so I wanted a club sport.
I ordered my Clubsport on October 2021, and as of today still have no build week allocated. After 17 months and poor dealership communication I am becoming more and more frustrated.
Can anyone give me any advice or insider knowledge?

Hi and welcome.
My only advice would be to hang on in there. When your car eventually arrives you will be able to take delivery, drive in for a couple of hundred miles then sell on at a large profit. You can't currently order a clubsport and there have been at least two price increases since you ordered. Was it under the £40k car tax threshold? If it was, makes it even more attractive to any prospective buyers. Of course you might decide to keep it.

The 40k car tax threshold is based on the recommended on the road price when you actually sign on the dotted line and drive it away, and not the actual price you negotiate/agree to, or the price of the car in 2021. So with all the delays and price increases this would push a few people into that higher tax bracket through no fault of their own.
I’m in the similar position with a Golf GTD ordered in November 2021, with no idea when it will arrive.
-
Thank you both for your thoughts. It seems this has become the norm, very disappointed in VW’s way of handling the issue. Fingers crossed I get this year

It's not a new thing for VAG, I ordered a Golf R in Sep 2014 and received it in May 2015, at a time when the lease special Rs were being ordered, built and delivered within 3 months.
-
Well I didn't know that. No wonder there are lots of annoyed people. With prices going up again in April practically every top spec Golf will be over £40k.
-
A 17 month wait is unbelievable. Wonder if other manufacturers are the same?
-
Looks like there a loads of us in the 2021 order club. I ordered my manual GTI September 21. I have been give about 6 different build dates most of which have been and gone. My latest build date is week 46 this year, it did go to Wk 41 for a while then back again. Like the clubsport you can no longer order a manual so it may even be worth and extra 50p when it eventually arrives.
The dealers have been good with me keeping me informed of the progress or lack there of, and servicing my current golf etc. VW UK on the other hand have been completely useless and that's being polite.
-
For the most part my dealer has been quite good keeping me updated, I usually get an email once a month telling me which build week has been provisionally booked. Needless to say that has always been different and further out than the previous update. On about two occasions it moved closer by 1 or 2 weeks, and then next update goes further out. I've kept a spreadsheet with all the dates and I'm sure in years to come I'll look back on it and laugh.
Regarding VW UK, I did escalate the issue around November last year, and now I get a customer relations manager that emails me as well with weekly updates. It has been quite funny seeing the 1 week difference between the two sources, not sure if they work from different 'week' calendars, or maybe the dealer is 'padding' it a bit. With the emails from the VW UK guy, sometimes it comes from his VWUK email address, and other times from his AudiUK emails address, so he is obviously covering both brands!
My last updated provisional build week was for May, but I've been close before and it suddenly moved out by a few months, so not counting on it until I know it's on a boat coming over.
-
Had another update from the dealer this afternoon. Now week 51 . Will I ever see my manual GTi????
-
My 7.5 was caught up in the WLTP delays in 2018. In fairness dealer was pretty good and as frustrated as I was. I did write to the UK COE and one of her staff contacted me and used to update me at least once a week, it was she that told me when it was at the Dock and going on the the ship to Harwich that week - rang the dealer and told them😄. The lady in question was actually pretty good and proactive.
However, my wait was nothing compared to some of the details I’ve read here, I’d have lost the will to live by now.
-
Mine is now included in my will as part of my estate in case I never live to see it.

As EV sales flatline, they're probably waiting for more BEV sales to bring the fleet CO2 average down before they can build yours!
I did get a ride to the train station in an ID Buzz on Monday after selling my Born - good effort there with the Buzz. Pity no Eco Warrior Hippies can afford one. That one was a demo with an £81k price tag.
