Title: Rough start up, clutch feels a bit funny i.e. creaking but no warning light?
Post by: DanielGolfGTI on 13 February 2023, 16:51
Hello, would a faulty clutch/ gearbox show up on the dashboard?

I think mine's on its way out (92k miles), but not had any errors on the dashboard.

Depends if its DSG or manual and what the fault is if it would show.
I'm guessing from the thread title it's manual so I would expect as it's mainly mechanical,it probably wouldn't show.
Creaking could be a number of things from clutch pedal through cylinders to clutch release bearing to clutch plate.
Rough start up at a guess i expect would be something else unrelated.
Hard to diagnosis these things over the net. Maybe a visit to a local specialist

Thanks for your reply.

Sorry, I should have added that detail- you're correct, it's a manual.

It's going in on Friday anyway so hopefully that will provide some clarity.

Along with the biting point feeling a bit lower, the gear changes are a bit jerky in 2nd/3rd.

Another thing I have noticed is that when the car is in 3rd / 4th and rolling along, when I accelerate moderately and take my foot off the pedal, there's a similar creaking noise to what the gear changes are making. There's a bit of a judder higher up the revs but not quite the same as misfire /limp mode etc.

All a bit odd nonetheless but there's something not quite right, will know more soon....

Thanks again.

Could be the dual mass flywheel failing, as they normally introduce vibrations along with some increased noise.
