Guys, wonder if people could offer up their experiences of their DSG cars after a cold start.
Bought the car in summer so first winter with it. It’s a 2019 GTi PP DSG.
Noticed it more recently with the dip in temperature. Start the car from cold, pull off the drive and the car holds onto 2nd gear for a little while with the revs around 2500 rpm. Probably about 20 mph.
When I idle the car for a while, de-icing it, then pull off the drive, it’ll change into 3rd normally. Obviously a bit more temp in the engine, etc. Wondering if it’s normal behaviour, or odd.

My TCR dsg does the same. Probably some sort of gearbox protection.

Normal. The car thinks for itself. Just let it.

Mine always holds on to second when leaving our local Tesco's car park. Odd but it probably knows what it's doing..

Excellent, thanks for the replies chaps. Much appreciated
One less thing to worry about.

Yep, totally normal - mine does exactly the same - otherwise performs faultlessly.

Just out of interest, what mileage is on the car? As holding onto 2nd once warm is usually fixed by a tramsmission fluid flush/filter change which is due at 40k miles (was on the mk7 anyway)

The issue which thankfully seems to be a non issue was straight after a cold start, more so in this cold weather.
After after around 200 metres, it selects 3rd fine.
Car has only done ~15,000 miles.
