I've had none of the faults you guys are experiencing, but with the mileage I pile onto mine (42k since July last year) I'm guessing a few will rear their head.

I had two things go wrong within a month of getting the car - Had a brand new drivers seat fitted after it kept clonking going round bends at speed (no weight jokes please, I'm a sensitive type!!)

The other was a new set of carpets, after the original set were ruined by a cinked air conditioning drain tube leaking fluid INTO the car!

That said, my driver and passenger windows now drop to different levels, and the drivers one has become a bit noisy, so I think I'll be seeing my dealers friendly face before November is out!

yeah that sounds like the window regulator on its way out!, this is my 1st winter with me mk4 and im sh!tting it about opening windows if theres been a bit of ice! dont wanna snap me regulators. there is a metal clips set now available to replace the plastic ones which snap ( check uk-mk4s website) this happened is u.s and vw recalled 800,000 cars and replaced plastic clips withmetal ones, vw uk say there isnt enough of a problem to recall all mk4s! pants i say, i got stung ?130 i think when mine went, yet the part was on ?63! some people have got new metal clip sets from vw so they may be available now, about 330  and well worth it, totally ruined my day when my window fell into my door!

Kniterider , Can you let me know the full e-mail address of the website where you can get hold of metal window regulator clips. My Mk4 GTI 20V non turbo has just dumped my drivers door window into the door and I want to fix the problem so it never happens again !

I've only just bought this car and joined the website and was over the moon with it till this happened , seems like many other MK4 owners have sufferred the same fate !

yep common mk4 fault, go to your nearest vw garage and ask them to order a set, some one on the ukmk4 site got them from vw so they should be openly available, ill scan the mk4 site and try to get the part no.s, and check the parts when you get them, if there plastic dont accept them and ask for the metal ones.

Thanks Kniterider , went to my local VW dealer , had a good moan at them , which made me feel better.

Had a look at the regulators they had in stock and they had been modified with cast metal parts around the clips so I took the plunge ......? 59 quid each including VAT , which I thought wasn't too bad.

So I asked them why the price had seemed to come down from what I had seen quoted on this forum and at Euro car parts ( ?80 ) and they said the reason was because they had commisioned so many to be made, due to the fault ................ that's an admission of being at fault if I ever heard one !
