Title: TCR foglight ducts
Post by: JB73 on 25 January 2023, 21:51
Hi guys, does anyone know the part numbers for the ducts in the TCR front bumper which are fitted where the fog lights normally are on the regular GTI as I’d like those instead of fog lights

Thanks Jason

Will it still pass an MOT? I thought if it came from factory with fogs it still needed them to pass an MOT. Assuming you are in the UK.

You only need to inspect front fog lamps fitted to vehicles first used on or after 1 March 2018.

Oh yes, I forgot about the MOT side of it. I might think of trading my existing car in for a TCR then

Cheers Jason

I'm not entirely convinced thats correct about the fogs...

The MOT requirement is to test them IF they are fitted and IF the vehicle was first registered after 1st March 2018.

There is nothing that says either its a legal requirement to have them on a new vehicle OR that if you removed them it would fail an MOT.

Basically, if they are fitted they have to work. Not fitted or uninstalled, can't be tested.

One rear foglight is the only UK legal requirement.

Suppose it depends how far you take 'fitted', when the ultra vigilant tester turns the switch to turn them on.

Justifying trading to a TCR based on having ducts instead of fogs is straight out fabulous though and should be encouraged.

Just another factory option that wasn't fitted... I mean its obvious there aren't any on the front...

And of course there are those rare early UK GTi's that came without them from the factory even the brochure had them pictured.

Yes - think it was some of the early UK spec mk7.5’s GTI’s and GTD’s rather than the mk7 cars that were mis-built without fog lights.

From memory, those owners that complained about it were compensated by VW.

Yeah very early 7.5's where VW UK hadn't defined the spec clear enough to Ze Germans and they arrived minus fogs.
