Title: Coolant level warning but level OK
Post by: gibb1998 on 09 January 2023, 12:31
Hi all,

My GTE is warning me to check the coolant level. I've noticed this happens when I don't have the interior fan on. I don't recall ever getting the warning when the interior fan is on. The coolant level is OK - about midway in the zone. The warning comes on in all driving modes - even when I'm doing a 100% electric journey (with the fan off).

Being a GTE, there appears to be no way of checking the temperature of the coolant or engine oil - is that correct?

What's the likely cause of the warning in relation to not having the fans on? Is that affecting a sensor or the thermostat?

Cheers
Phil

Sensor knackered in the bottle? On the GTI at least, the sensor is in the bottle and a replacement bottle will fix it

Can you not access the fluid temps on the Infotainment panel - can on a GTI?

I'm pretty sure the fluid temps are not available in the Infotainment. I will double-check. Where are they in the GTI? Under Car/Data?

On the ‘Car’ option on the main screen (Mk7.5), just press the button until the three gauges pop up and then swipe through each dial until you get the ones you want. I have Boost, Kw and Oil temp on all the time but I’m sure coolant is also there.

The GTE doesn’t seem  to have those options in the Car settings. Only tyre pressure and fuel type/distance metrics.

It seems I can use my Carly though for coolant temperature so that’s a start. A fresh coolant bottle with new sensor seems a sensible starting point too.
