Title: 4 years ago today…..
Post by: Adam T7 on 21 December 2022, 06:18
I picked up my GTI (nice Christmas present )

Since then I’ve done 18,200 miles, had it serviced annually plus 6 month oil changes. I had the DSG and Haldex service on 3 years and replaced the front tyres. Compared to previous cars the VED is cheap and the insurance price remarkably cheap IMO.
Only ever washed by me and it’s still a stunner.

No real point to this ramble apart from saying it’s been a superb car in every way, a joy to drive. Can’t see it moving on in the 4 years or beyond TBH👍

This site has also been great, informative and helpful and lacking the arrogant know it alls and petty squabbles that were on previous car sites I used to be a member of.

Mine was picked up 4 years ago tomorrow.

Similar experience- memorable day and a superb ownership experience since.

And yes, the car is still a joy to drive.

Happy anniversary!

I think it was you and I that swapped notes on the WLTP experience?

We may have done, I remember there being confusion as to whether manual cars would still be available- one dealer told me they weren’t- and I was keen to get my order in on a manual whilst I could.

I think the first 68 plate GTIs were all registered some weeks after 1st September because of the delays

Good to hear you are both enjoying them! I'll have had mine 3 years in early Feb but it was 8 months old when I got it. It has been pretty good to me so far after 29k miles, new sunroof surround and a new windscreen. Brakes need looking at as there's an intermittent judder and there's been a new set of tyres. I'm idly looking around at possible replacements but tbh, this one covers everything I need so well I'd be a fool to change it. Just wish the DSG was better, mostly very good, occasionally not so good..

Yep, ordered mine mid June 2018 with an expected delivery early September which stretched out to late December. By the time I got it, it was classified as a MY19 but missing the keyless entry (really not bothered about that little nugget of joy) but had the rear camera which I believe was standard on a MY19. The dealer was pretty good through the waiting process, guaranteeing the trade in on my D4 etc.
Happy Days.

Ordered my Mk 7.5 GTI PP DSG 245 5dr 3 yrs ago this week.  Car was originally due for delivery to me in March 2020 but then COVID happened, and I finally took delivery in late July 2020 (ie on a 20 plate, when most 20 plate GTI's were Mk 8's).  This made it one of the last factory order (my car has Dynaudio and Brescias) Mk 7.5 GTI's delivered to the UK I believe.  This has been my 4th 'performance' Golf and it has been faultless so far and I love it.  26k miles racked up already as it's my daily.  I won't be changing any time soon (particularly given what I currently pay p/month on PCP would struggle to get me a new Fiesta nowadays).

Happy Anniversary. I assume Santa didn't try and deliver it down your chimney?

Feel the same about the ones in our garage and genuinely can't see the need to change them, there simply isn't anything better.

And you're right about this community, it's a real gem.

Ordered mine 9/18 but delayed due to WLTP. I got the last MY18 build week so no camera, keyless or ???clever lights. I have since retro fitted the VW rear camera. Chose to leave until 3/19 to register.
I’m philosophical about missing the extras by a week as it would def have been a MY18 spec anyway but for the WLTP delays.
VW have always been annoying b*****s for messing around with the extras as production lines start to run-out. I suppose other manufacturers do the same but I have no experience of that.
This is a great car, not planning to change.
This morning I am just hanging around while two new Michelin PS5s are put on the front.

I had the camera ordered and the dancing lights were standard, you are right, the MY spec was a bit hit and miss at the time, price was ok so I was happy👍

Yep, the dancing lights were standard but I think the “smart dipping lights” were a MY 19 standard feature.

At the time I definitely did NOT want keyless as there were many scare stories going around about theft.

Now my car is a little less attractive to the bad boys I would like it. I had it as standard on my previous GTI which was one of the very last pre-facelift cars.

It still slightly bugs me that VW messed around with orders and specs during the WLTP debacle. The least they could have done for all our delayed orders was build them all as MY 19 specs.

I prefer to think of myself as an ethical person but clearly corporate VW thinks differently.

Treat others as you would wish to be treated is a great roadmap for life.

Happy 4 years Adam T7 🎈🥂

With that many oil changes at that low a mileage that is one pampered car.

Hopefully many more happy years lie ahead

😂 My wife tells me I love that car more than I love her, how wrong can she be?

I love my next door neighbours car more.

Seriously, it’s a keeper.

With that service history that engine will last you to 250k and with your annual mileage that'll be 50 years of driving
