Title: Golf ACC radar sensor faulty

Hi all

My neices golf seems to have an issue with the
adaptive cruise control not working. Tried
recalibrating but looks like the sensor might be
knackered. Is it possible to fix or will a new one be
required? Part number 5q0907541J

Most likely need a new one unless it just needs calibrating again if it has been knocked. Find a good VW specialist as dealers want well over £200 to do it.

I'm sure your niece has done this but has she checked the front of the car to ensure it's clean? You don't say what the error message is but I've recently had wet leaves (surprisingly small ones) obscure the radar and the obstruction has thrown up an error saying that ACC is not available.

If the unit can't be calibrated or has an intermittent fault, I'd suggest getting a new unit. As ever, it'll be cheaper at a specialist.

I wasn't expecting VCDS error messages but very helpful. I actually just wondered what the error message on the dashboard was throwing up. If none of the functions which depend on the component are available, it can point to the failure of the component(s).

Communication or calibration issues in my experience have come down to obstruction (leaf litter / road grime) or an impact (something small like a Deer in the case of a previous car).

Beyond the obvious above, I think you're down to replacement of components. I don't know what they're rated at in terms of operating hours but they do fail.
