Title: Washer fluid cap
Post by: sjw on 14 November 2022, 11:54
Is it normal for these to just not fit at all? Every time I go to fill my washer fluid up I struggle with, and then give up on, getting the damn thing to clip on properly. The whole thing comes off, which can't be right. I know some people put a Skoda/Audi one in

Mine clips in fine without any real effort. It definitely shouldn't all come off.

Maybe it came off once and I've put it back in the wrong order. I struggled with it for 5 or 10 minutes the other day before I just shoved it on as best as I could in a huff

The originals do come off and will go back on. One of these will fit but if you’re minded you might find it cheaper elsewhere!

Maybe someone can explain to me how it's supposed to fit, because I can't figure it out!

Two pieces come off: the filter, and the blue ring. Which is supposed to go on first?

The blue ring/cap part has little tabs that look as if they are supposed to fit under another part. Which part does it clip on to?

I showed my brother and my dad, and they couldn't figure it out either. It honestly feels like at some point they've been replaced with parts for a car that has a pipe diameter of like 2mm less!

From memory the blue ring goes on first and the filter slides into it.

I've got one of these rubber caps & I think I paid about £10 for it.

It does finish it off better than that cheap OEM thing they use.

The one Lamborghini use is slightly smaller in diameter than the VW version, I know this as they do theirs in Black & I bought one only to find out it doesn't fit 🤦‍♂️

Don't think it matters - the OEM part is really poor quality. VW will probably try and tell you it's for performance being lightweight.

Take a look at this YouTube link, it shows the removal of the OEM.  (https://youtu.be/xDoLCesp4Oc?t=22)

From memory, I think you remove the cap assembly and then the filter as the filter has a lip which seats it on the aperture of the pipe. It then acts as a retainer for the lid assembly to stop it coming off as easily. If you yank it hard enough, the lower part of the assembly will catch the filter and pull it out at the same time.

I saw somewhere about the cap being swappable for a Skoda Octavia item. It has an inbuilt funnel to help with refilling.

Yep, that's the part shown in the video I linked above.

My local TPS, admittedly with my trade discount, probably only 10% on something like that.

I've not ordered from TPS before. Their website doesn't seem great. Do you have to phone them? Are their parts cheaper than ordering from a dealer?

Be easier to find your local TPS and wander down, probably sell you one. I'm in the trade so I have an account with them and they deliver to me.

They are just the VAG group parts outlet for the trade.

Depends where you are. Some TPS outlets only deal with the trade. The one I used won't sell to me anymore
