Anybody had, or heard, or a problem with the headlights flickering? It only happens occasionally and only when the lights come on as I approach the car / unlock the car. Nothing while driving.

I’ve not noticed anything like that on my GTI, but as mentioned above it could be the self check appearing to be flickering, maybe post a video if you can as you’ll get a definitive answer.

This is before the self check on start up, just when they come on when unlocking the car. I’ll try and catch it on video.

I saw this happen once, after I locked the car (so it was the “coming home” lights). I locked and unlocked it again and it was fine. Never saw it happen again either. I just put it down to another software brain fart.

I’ve been watching mine on unlock for the last couple of days and they seem ok, I’ll keep watching to see if anything changes.

This could well be a power issue. And may well be caused by the led driver unit failing, I’d personally take it into the dealer and have them check, there’s a chance there is a fault code stored relating to it, or it could well be that it’s a know issue and they straight away know how to resolve it, either way, having them check it would log the issue and should the problem re occur or get worse you’d have a bit of leverage, especially if the car went out of warranty before it happened again.

Just had this happen for the first time, it happened after approaching the car and the leaving home headlights coming on before the car was started, I sat in the car and noticed the flickering before I pressed start, weirdly the infotainment screen went black until the start button was pressed, and the dash screen changed to the dual classic dial view, the dash view has changed itself several times in the past, but it’s never bothered me, outside temp was at 9’C.

Has anyone got any further along with this?
I ask because I was chatting with an Inchcape Tech today and whilst talking about some of the common issues around the Mk.8, he asked "Have you had flickering headlights?". I haven't....or haven't noticed....but said that I know that some people have. I didn't think at the time to ask if there was a TPI for it, so I could post it here, but it at least shows that it's a known issue at dealerships and may help those experiencing it.

Just had the flickering happen again, but this time I was able to capture a video, as it did it each time I re locked the car and approached it again, it only does it randomly, and even then only when approaching the car, and not when the car is started and headlights are properly on, once the car has been started it doesn’t do it again if I repeat the process, so appears to be highly sporadic!

This happened to me for the first time in the week.
As I got out of the car having just parked up on my drive I noticed it, now I'm now expert but this was in twilight so I'm speculating that the lights were a bit confused as to if they needed to be on or not, it happened as I was locking my car.
