Seems like the slave cylinder is leaking inside the gearbox so makes sense to maybe change the clutch at the same time while its out.
We are running a stage 1 map and whilst we have no clutch slip can anyone recommend which is a decent make to put back in?
Thanks

I have the Sachs SRE clutch kit installed in my gti stage 1. Little firmer than stock but a great clutch. No more slip after fitting. I also replaced the release bearing. The flywheel was in good condition so nothing done there

Thanks, what mileage had yours done?, can you send a link to the kit please?
-
From memory mine had approx 100,000km on it.

I would avoid RTS. The twin friction set up sounds great however the one they sent me looked as though it had been manufactured at home and hand sprayed with black paint. It was fitted with the correct alignment tool and juddered from day one. Taking it apart and one of the rivets was proud and had scoured the flywheel - hence the judder.
Now I may have just been plain unlucky but I don't think so. Instead I just fitted a new Sachs clutch and flywheel fitted
for the Golf R to my lowly but still very entertaining manual standard 220 bhp GTI. Should last for many miles.
Just my experience.

Cant fault RTS to be honest, i gave got there single mass flywheel and organic clutch setup with there uprated slave cylinder on my mk7 gti
Pedal feels lovely and the car absolutely rips so im well chuffed with it and was a good price direct from there website

And you joined just to say that?
-
Well no… i joined because i love my golfs and thought I would give my opinion on a product!!! This topic just happened to be the first post that I posted on as I’ve recently had to have a clutch setup put in my mk7 gti
You stayed up late just to say that?

Can anyone recommend a standard clutch, does the Golf R clutch fit?

It will fit but is almost just as weak as the GTi one so will slip if mapped. It has slightly higher torque limits but not by much. Go aftermarket

How long does a standard clutch last though on a mapped engine? as ours only covered 25k and its just the slave leaking

How long is a piece of string ? Not a question with a definite answer. Once my car went stage 1 if would slip in 6th gear when on motorway if you have it full acceleration and was just generally useless at its job. If your slave cylinder is just leaking then just fix that and stay with your original clutch. But then what was your original question again ???

Yeah, know what you mean, just worried about replacing a perfectly good clutch for the sake of it, we aren't experiencing any slip at all.
I guess will know more when they remove the gearbox and see if any fluid has dripped onto the clutch, if so, it will have to be changed anyway.... :nerd:
