Title: Boot Open

Does the mk8 allow you to open the boot from the key fob aka hands free boot opening?

mine only unlocks with the button, bit odd as even my A3 pops it open.

I haven't got my keys with me but I'm sure it has a boot unlock button.  Of course, it doesn't swing open though - is that even possible unless you have an automatic/electric operation option?

Some companies make aftermarket self opening gas struts - don’t know if these would be available or compatible with the mk8 though.

I think they operate under increased in pressure to push the tailgate up when it’s released so there’s a danger of damaging the tailgate if inadvertently opening it in places with restricted headroom (e.g. some multi storey car parks). More force is also probably required to close the tailgate too.

If the mk8 has a two stage tailgate catch, then they might not be suitable.

Edit; found a couple of threads on the mk7 forum board on the auto lift tailgate modification.

Thanks all. Gonna miss a few conveniences from this 8 series!

Alas, the 8 series sits in a different place in the market to a humble Golf hatch.
Mind you, a 1 series can be specced with an electric boot open/close plus the interior is more on a par with an 8’er unlike a Golf mk8’er.
C’est la vie.

There used to be a kit for mk7 Golfs using Skoda parts that could be retro-fitted allowing the boot to spring open on the key remote, maybe it would be mk8 compatible(?), have a search in the mk7 section.
The only caveat I remember was the gas struts were pretty powerful so you needed to be careful of low roofs in car parks and garages.
