Title: Broken dipstick
Post by: symonh2000 on 03 September 2022, 12:21
I have just been outside to check the oil on my car. When shoving the dipstick back in both of the small clips on the sides have broken off and dropped inside the engine compartment somewhere.

Now i am worried that this is going to cause an issue with me using the car, will the stick pop upwards for instance as I drive?

Also when is the best place to buy a replacement?

In the 30 or so years I have been driving I have never had a broken dipstick until now.

Your local TPS would be your best bet, no idea on cost though.

Thanks for that. I don't think it will cause too many issues with driving as there appears to be a vacuum holding it in.

Still a cheap rubbish part though. :(

The o-ring will keep the dipstick in. Mine did the same recently and I had zero issues. I replaced it with one from LLL parts on ebay.

Just make sure the part number is the same, I think its stamped into the plastic handle.

Double check the length too, as there are numerous dipsticks which all look the same.
