cannot seem to get my auto wipers working do you have to have the stalk up to intermitted or the first wiper setting ,,,mines a golf Gtd 2014 don't know if I have it on mine cheers
-
Effectively intermittent, put the lever in the first up position from "off" & the wipers should wipe once, and not continue to wipe, if it is dry day.
To test, with lever in this position pour some water on the (outside of) windscreen on the round sensor you can see on the inside of the windscreen in front of the rear view mirror.
If the wipers don't come on, it may be a problem with the sensor? Obviously not an exact diagnosis over the internet.

Thanks for getting back mine must be knackered the intermittent wipe stays on all the time , I’ve set in the infotainment screen too

The switch on the top sets the sensitivity too, far left not very sensitive, far right very sensitive, very little rain will cause it to white more often. So to really test throw it all the way to the left and it should white more intermittently, with longer delays between it.

I have a 65 plate GTD and mine have never worked as far as I'm aware. All I seem to be able to do is change the speed of the intermittent wipe thingy. VW have assured me I have auto wipers. The closest thing to auto wiping are the wipers slowing down when at a stop at traffic lights... like most cars

The auto headlights are great, but I really can't stand automatic wipers  They have a mind of their own and rarely work as they should. I have mine set to the highest sensitivity and even then it's hit/miss, and when it does rain I'm forever changing the sensitivity switch on the top as I'm driving but it's a losing battle. I miss having manually controlled wipers

Agree. I hardly ever use auto wipers for the same reason. I use the single flick wipe function instead - a quick push down on the wiper stalk to give a single wipe when it’s needed is much more effective IMHO.
Not auto wipers, but the cars with the best intermittent wipers that I’ve owned were a 1982 mk3 Ford Escort XR3 and 1984 mk3 XR3i. Those cars had a rotary control which gave an infinitely variable time delay adjustment between each sweep of the wipers when using them in intermittent mode.

Auto wipers are definitely a step backwards from manual ones . Was never something I needed or wanted on a car

Found them to work faultlessly on my MK7, just turn them on and forget about them. Was worried every time I had a screen replaced they would stop working as well but so far it has made no difference.
