Title: A few mods to the GTI

Hi guys, I purchased a GTI performance about 2 months ago and am enjoying owning the car. I’ve recently carried out a few mods cosmetically. I’ve added the intake manifold cover, sill protectors,TCR side skirts and rear diffuser. Next on the list is a front splitter but not sure wether to get the TCR one or something else. Hi JB73

Very nice looking car, I particularly like the diffuser- looks great on a white 3 door car.

I hope you’re not planning on changing the wheels. They look great too

Can I ask where you got the TCR rear diffuser from and can you post a link please.

Hi mate, I’ll be honest and say that the rear diffuser is not a genuine one. I bought one of these from eBay to try as the price was good and when it arrived the fit and finish is very good and difficult to tell from an original VW one. I may change it in the future for a genuine one but I’ll see how this one lasts.

Now looking at changing the door mirror cover, can’t decide between gloss black, satin black or carbon fibre. Any thoughts?

I've had all three and gloss back is my favourite. I have satin black on my TCR which looks good with the satin wheels but as you seem to have gloss black accesories, that's why I'd say go with those.

Looks great Jason and I agree with Watts, gloss black would be my choice and maybe a matching black roof wrap…  :cool:

Can i please ask on where you purchased the TCR Side Skirts, what's the likely cost of these and are they easy enough to fit.

Hi, I purchased the tcr side skirts direct from vw, you need both the side skirts and also the mounting strip located behind them. To fit you need to remove the existing skirts and mounting stip ( assuming you have a gti) you also need to re drill the new mounting strips on as the fixing points don’t line up with the existing. The installation is reasonably straight forward though as once the mounting strips are fitted the bottom part of the skirt clips into the sill underneath and the top edge is stuck to the body with the pre fitted 3M tape. Tha bad news is the price though, mounting strips and skirts work out at £1054

I bought some cheap gloss black mirror caps off eBay to try, fitted them today and grabbed a couple of pics.I will source some genuine ones or have my original white ones sprayed black now that I can see what they look like. I would keep the cheap ones on there but the fit is not all that great on the side of the mirror closest to the window. Probably me being too fussy

How did you get on with the Mountune Stage 1? Would you recommend?

It feels so much better and quicker with it fitted although I’ve removed it at the moment because the clutch started to slip with the higher torque so I’ll get a better clutch fitted then reinstall the Mountune
