Title: Disable Stop/Start for free in seconds.
Post by: Ej1749 on 29 July 2022, 14:19
Just found this gem that disables stop start. Got a bit excited, so thought I would would share. Apologies, if this is already common knowledge. Like me, I know most people hate the stupid stop/start system. Rather than pay to have it coded out or buy an OBD Eleven, I found this works!

Just unplug the battery maintenance module. (No idea if this affects warranties).

Been discussed a few times but it's not advisable to disconnect it. Can't remember if it's something to do with the car now not knowing the state of charge of the battery. Much easier to just press the button each time you get in the car.

Ahh okay. I just do a tonne of driving and getting in and out a lot... it's annoying. When I forget to turn it off, it jerks forward hard and feels unhealthy on the car... and is annoying ha

Yes, it's to do with battery management and charging and disconnecting it is not advisable.

You'd be better off with one of those memory module things which remembers the last state of the start/stop button, basically once pressed to disable it remembers that state even when the ignition cycled.

I did mine with Carista. Although still technically still on it never operates as the system thinks that the battery isn't charged enough.

I wonder if you could link the switch to the ignition start switch so when you started the car it turned off the stop/start, no would need to be short to earth switches tho,

Don’t get the issue, pressing a little button every time you start the car isn’t really difficult?

Agree. Pressing the button to switch off stop start is part of my normal starting procedure. It very quickly becomes second nature to do it without even thinking about it.

100% will do! I am purchasing it tomorrow. I think it is part of Alibaba, so it may take a while to get here. Although, I have purchased from the Chinese companies before and they have always been great!

The lead has arrived... well arrived a week ago, but the Mrs forgot to tell me. Looks very good quality and feels robust. I will try and get it installed by the weekend and take a few pics and let you know if it works.

Bypass Lead works. Took about 3 minutes to install. Seems to be working fine  Battery connector has been plugged back in. It is a bit more fiddly to remove the buttons on the left than in the Golf R... More space to get your fingers under to pop it out in the R for some reason.

Lambo Engine start button cover... because it was £0.99 and I was bored during lockdown and also, it's pretty cool!

Messy car... Zero excuses. However, the outside is looking very glossy and clean!

I have a friend with a 2017 R & he disconnected the plug at the battery the day he bought it.

The car has done almost 80,000 miles & is still on the original OEM battery.
