I have now had my Mk 8 for a few weeks. Somethings I knew were no longer fitted as standard compared to the 7.5 and for others, it has taken me a while to realise they were gone. Here’s my list so far:-
Heated seats
Door sill inserts and no illumination
Under seat storage
Cubby on the dash at your right knee
Sunglasses holder above the mirror
Red stitching on the steering wheel
Space saver spare wheel.

Am I correct that it seems Clubsports have the red stitching on the steering wheel. Does anyone have a GTI that has red stitching? I just noticed yesterday that mine does not. What else has gone that I haven’t yet noticed?

Here’s a couple more;
- no sliding cover over the cup holders in the centre console.
- no gas bonnet strut.
- no low washer fluid warning light has also been mentioned earlier this week.
-
Yeah the CS has the red stitching on the wheel. It seems weird that they’d omit this small thing on the standard GTI!
Heated seats and low washer fluid are both part of the winter pack.
RacingLine do a gas bonnet strut that’s really easy to retro fit - I’d recommend it.

My heart skipped a beat when I read the thread title, I thought the mk8 had been binned already!
As previously mentioned, the low washer fluid is part of the winter pack which was standard on later mk7’s but no longer standard on mk8’s.
The illuminated sill trim itself has gone but the cable for it must still exist as that feed has gone into the rear doors to illuminate the door trim. More ‘moved’ than removed.
Plenty of other changes, some clearly cost cutting but there are tech upgrades such as IQ lighting and all the digital stuff, wireless phone charger, blind spot warning and so on.

I had to get a replacement steering wheel and thought I would get one with red sticking but I didn’t, it seems that’s a Clubsport specific feature rather than a any change they made. You’d think parts wise it would be easier to just have one type!

I'd assume it's just a GTD steering wheel with the different decorative trim.

Under seat storage disappeared on 7.5 golfs.

I concede I was being a little mischievous when I chose the title of the post. I also recognise there are many good additions to the spec of the Mk8, I like tech and the digital evolution of the Golf does appeal. However, no red stitching or illuminated sills is just too mean but overall I think the GTI feel on the 8 persists. I have made some superficial mods and I have some more planned as I intend to keep it for a while yet.

Is that what that pattern is! It never occurred to me, every day is a school day I guess!

Red stitching is about to become available on the 245 GTI for 2023 MY.

At a cost? I might just colour mine in!

No, it'll be standard, one of the minor changes they're making for MY23.

Odometer reset button. My fuel gauge is backwards, or else it’s me.
