Hi, just bought a Golf GTI Performance Mk7.5 2020 and I called the garage which serviced the car to double check what oil was used as it's not particularly clear from the manual.
The garage said 5w 30 Castrol Edge LL which seems to be the most common results when looking online. I had originally e-mailed the sales rep but had no reply until today which stated she had asked the service department and they have said 0w 30.
Thought I would try a different garage to access my service info and his first impression was 0w 20 but apparently it wasn't obvious, by this point I don't have much faith in any of the answers. I'm going to try the parts department at the garage it was last serviced at as they should have an invoice which specifies the oil.
I know that the correct specified oil either 0w 30 or 5w 30 is technically fine to use but I'd rather stick with whatever is currently in the car so that I have the correct top up oil if necessary.
Has anyone else experienced this and what oil do you tend to use?
Thanks
Update: Parts just said that 0w 20 was used, ffs. Literally could be any of the 3 then......

What does the owners manual say?? I would go with that.
As far as I know the correct spec for your car with the GPF is 0w-20 VW 508 00 / VW 509 00 oil

Ours is a little older than yours, a 19 plate but it is a DKTB engine code and it has a particulate filter in the exhaust. I had the same problem, it's not very clear. I couldn't find any stickers on mine as to what oil had been used at the factory fill.
Our manual says, page 239:
Petrol engines with a particulate filter:
- Flexible servicing VW 508 00 or alternatively VW 504 00
- Fixed servicing VW 508 00 or alternatively VW 504 00
I gave my dealer the VIN number and they assured me it was factory filled with VW 504 00 grade.
I then cross referenced this on a few oil companies websites (Fuchs, Quantum, Castrol, Shell) and they were giving a choice of either grade.
I did an oil change on mine before the first service (at 5k miles) and I used Fuchs TITAN GT1 PRO C-3 SAE 5W-30 XTL Technology which is approved to 504 00 spec.
The other oil changes have been done by the main dealer. They use Quantum oil.

@bogwoppit thanks for sharing your experience. My manual reads 504 00, ACEA C3 or API CJ-4 (with particulate filter) which didn't really help to confirm what had been put in the car.
The garage has now assured me that the "new" parts guy was wrong and it has 0w 30. I guess I'll stick with that for now and during 6 monthly changes and make sure I get a break down of whats been used at future services.
Thanks again

Another vote for 0w-30, this what was used at my last three services, I'm on yearly services. Seems they've used Shell Helix Ultra Professional 0w-30 AV-L which is 504/507.
Usualiy buy Castrol but they don't make it in the right spec.

I believe that 0w20 was the factory fill on later 7.5s but not absolutely sure. I read this was to improve mpg as was the tyre pressures of 40psi. As long as the oil meets 504 spec that should be OK.
