Hi all,
Just bought my first GTi (mk 7.5) and front discs
and pads need replacing. Has anyone got any recommendations? Stick to VW OEM or switch to 3rd party?

I bought J hooked VBT discs from Awesome GTI and standard pads from VW motorparts for other half’s 7.5GTI and she has no complaints, I drive it often also and think great set up for road driving, neither of us hang around on a spirited drive

I am a big fan of Brembo pads and discs. They are well priced and a lot less dust from their pads versus VW OEM.

Great thanks. I was thinking brembo ones
too, had some on my old vRS. I noticed there are
different options such as slotted or cross-drilled ones.
What are the benefits of these? Are they more expensive?

I've heard from a good few mechanics and enthusiasts they've always been left disappointed by Brembo, basically stating normal discs and pads are very poor, but the premium high performance stuff is good.
TRW and Mintex are the go to for many people for performance and value.

I like Textar, ATE, Jurid and TRW personally, but I have also had good results with Mintex.
I think the top line Brembo stuff is decent, but the regular OEM spec stuff is nothing special, especially if bought from a certain "European" car parts supplier as the ones they sell are made in China under Licence.

I bought a full set of Brembos from ECP and fronts were made in Italy, rears in China.

Recently changed front discs and pads, went for RTS performance dimpled and grooved with yellow stuff pads, all from Awesome GTI, very pleased with them. Beware of ordering Brembo, my first order from an advertised official Brembo site was a disaster, they sent me fakes without any of the authenticity safe guards that Brembo should have and it was clear they weren’t right. There’s a lot of fake Brembo parts out there.

Thanks for info all. I don't want to spend
a fortune on discs and pads. Awesome GTi
looks good, any other good sites to recommend?

I tried RTS fast road pads as I`ve never used RTS before.
Stopping power is a bit poor and that`s being polite, won`t be using those pads ever again.

I recently fitted grooved discs from Mtech and Brembo Xtra pads all round. So much better than standard and pretty reasonably priced (discs £190, pads about £170)
