Title: Starter motor not turning.
Post by: GPT27 on 19 October 2005, 17:14: Just developed a new problem in my 1990 8v GTi.

A couple of times now when I go to start it, I get a kind of graunching noise and the starter motor doesn't turn over. After about 5 or 6 tries it will suddenly start as normal.

Any ideas?

ive got a spare if you need one :smiley:

How much is a brand new starter solenoid, couldn't seem to find it listed on GSF.

If it's pricey I might have to look at yours Blue, how much we talking?

Post by: jase555 on 23 October 2005, 08:10: my wife had the safe problem about 5 weeks ago. turns out cylinder 4 was filling up with water once the engine was stopped when hot due to pitting in the cylinder head. conciquently just had a skim and new gaskets cost me Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£255
might be woth cecking if the new starter doesnt cure it.

Post by: Si on 24 October 2005, 17:57: I think to get a new starter motor it is an exchange policy, not sure how much they are, i know my old Astra GTE was about Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£50 for an exchange! :sad:
